My livebox has been fine, until recently. I was able to access internet pages, log into MSN messenger and connect my PS3. But now, I can't do anything? The livebox appears to be connected to the internet (the @ light is solid red and the other one too) but when I attempt to go onto any webpages, it does not load. Likewise, when I try to sign into MSN I can't, and when I troubleshoot, it says Key Ports are the issue? I have contacted Orange, who provided no help whatsoever. They said I must do a speedtest on speedtest.net....BUT I CAN'T EVEN ACCESS THE PAGE! When I go on it, it just loads slightly and stops even after refreshing. I have checked the firewalls and everything suggested and I have rebooted the Livebox, but there has been no joy? What exactly is the issue and how can I resolve it, any help would be greatly appreciated.
OS = XP
Browser(s) = Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox. When I attempt Speedtest on IE, it loads, but there is a large white box in the middle and I assume that is where the information and prompts are? Speedtest doesn't load on Firefox
The livebox has a red led, not sure about others but mine does lol :S
There haven't been any updates prior to these problems. I have been in non stop contact with Orange recently regarding this issue too. But they have provided no help, and have been rather ineffecient to say the least ¬_¬
They did a line test and found that the line was not the problem. They also made me do the ping thingy, where I type cmd in run and blah. The packets were being lost....I am not sure what this means but I assume the bytes sent are much less than the bytes received. Again, this is not something I have much knowledge on...but if it is of any value?
I mean I can open the internet....but webpage loading is so slow. For example, Firefox works, but sometimes times out? WHY!?!?!?
I called Orange AGAIN (!) and they said I should reformat my computer. What does this mean? I do not want to reboot my computer and lose everything for no progress....that would be a slap in the face. I tried it on the PS3, as I mentioned before and had the same problem...so I do not think it's the computer's trouble?
As for Borednow's suggestion, I did not understand it and thought if I attempted under-educated then I would only make things worse...so I haven't tried it
Can a problem like this occur due to a poor wire or something? The line is fine, but I just don't know
I think reformatting your computer is poor advice and should not be attempted unless you are experienced. It will wipe all all data on your PC making it unusable and you will have to reload everything from scratch. This can caus more problems if you dont know what your are doing.
Can you log into your router by typing 192.168.1.1 in your internet browser, use admin as username and password. Go to system information and post your router stats?
ADSL firmware version : A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode : ADSL2
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 9.9
Attenuation (dB) : 47.5
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 1272
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Downstream Upstream
Rate (kbps) 1016 285
Yes just this is enough.
With those stats your router should be synching at about 5500kbps - 6000kbps instead of 1016kbps.
Also I'm not sure why Orange have you on an ADSL2 connection rather than a ADSL2+.....47.5dB attenuation is just about OK for ADSL2+.
Also you seem to be an a 9dB Target SNR rather than the default 6dB.
All this may well be due to their new DLM which has a mind of its own and wants to emulate Frankenstein's monster.
Have you an NTE5 main socket (removable lower half) if so try plugging the router into the test socket behind the frontplate and check the stats again.
This is so bad.... but I am clueless as to what package I have...
We been with them since Freeserve...
I tried to do the speedtest...but it will not load, like before....is there any alternative?
Is there anymore information needed, where can I find out what type of package I have? Should I call Orange again?
Thanks for the help guys and sorry about the limited information..
