Hi i would be gratefull of any kind of help here. I have been on the Orange home max package since febuary 09 which started at a price of £24.99 i think, i have had nothing but problems with Orange which stated when i realised i was paying Orange for the home max package and also paying another phone provider for line rental and calls aswell, this took 4 months of phone calls and being told 10-15 working days everytime i phoned to sort out.
My latest problem has arrisen since we moved house on 4th of jan, we only moved about 400yards but ever since my broadband speed has been awful. The speed at my old house was around 2.5m which was fine for what we use our internet for, the speed at our new house (which is closer to the exchange). I have just done a test on speedtest.net and the result is. 0.25mbps download speed- 0.38 upload speed-ping 75ms.
The speed has been getting slower and slower i have rung Orange about 15 times in 3 weeks and gone through all the test they want you to do, there is also a loud crackling noise on the line which makes it impossible to hear anybody. At the begining of last week one of their operaters arranged for a BT engineer to come out, the engineer did all the test and said my line was fine and it was my livebox which was causing interfearance on my line, and i needed a broadband engineer to come out to check everthing. I phoned Orange and explained this only to be told the BT engineer had fooled me and they hung up. I havny rang them back yet because i cant go over the same thing with another operator who will tell me to do the same tests over and over, they really do drive you mad.
Iam using the master socket, and am around 900 yards from the exchange. orange did a line test an said my line would support 8 meg. Would be gratefull of any help or advice, i cant ring that call centre again at the minute i havnt got the patients.
One last thing, can somebody tell me why i now pay £33.00 a month and why i wasnt told of this increase. surley that cant be leagal when you are in contract.
Can you log in to www.speedtester.BT.com then post the result back here please ?
Edit : do you have an NTE5 main socket, the one with the removable lower half, if so plug a corded analogue phone into that, dial 17070 select option 2 for quiet line test. If there's any noise whatsoever, even the slightest then it's a BT problem.

Hi i have just done the test the results....
Download speed achieved during test... 221kbps.
For your connection acceptable range of speeds is. 50-250 kbps
Your dsl connection rate 992kbps (down stream). 448. (up stream)
ip profile for your line is. 250kbps.
I did the test with the line plugged into the socket inside the BT box. When i took the bottom half of the box off there were no wires connected to the front plate, there are just 2 wires that are connected in the whole box and around 4 wires that are just tucked up inside.
Also did the quiet line test and there was no noise, we never had this problem with the live box at our old house so surley its got to be the phone line. Hve also found my second line isnt working since they told me to set up this new livebox.
Forgot to say before the BT guy came out there was a a wire comig from the room above the BT box which was wired up to the front plate of the BT box, the BT guy said it was an extension and wasnt even BT wire it was alarm wire, he disconected this which is why there is now only the two wires inside the main part connected. Im sure my conection is now worse than before.

Anybodys thoughts on this would be really helpfull because i really dont know whats goin on except my speed has just gone in a couple of weeks.
FINALLY. Thought id try ringing Orange one more time and used the 0800 number i found on here, the waiting time was 28 mins but it was free when the call was finally answered it was an english lady, when explained everything she said she would put me through to home phone team in india, i explained i didnt want to speak to them as its impossible to talk to them, she put me on hold then about 8 mins later came back with somebody from the escalations dept. He went through my notes then came back to tell me all the test he had done on my line came back so poor that if i was a new customer wanting broadband then they wouldnt accept me due to the slow speed i would recieve, around 0.4m.
He explained my broadband was dropping all the time and was now at 70% and as one last try to fix things he would send a broadband engineer out one day next week and see what the outcome is. If he can somehow make things better then i would recive a refund, some free months (i have 6 months left) and all monies i have paid since moving here refunded to me.
If they cannot do anything i they will end my contract and compansate me for there poor service.
