I have been on a supposedly 8Mb connection for over a year now. The fastest I have ever connected is 2.7 Mb, it is normally around 2Mb. My router connection to the BT exchange varies between 7.5Mb and 8.1 Mb, so I have come to the conclusion that Orange are unable to supply a 8Mb service.
When I called Tech Support(ha ha), I was told that my Speedtouch modem requires a firmware update. I replied that I didn't use a Speedtouch modem, and connected via a modem/router, and my router speed was OK. She said; 'We are only trained on Speedtouch modems, so I cannot help you, goodbye', and she hung up on me!
untimatly although the speed cap is 8mb on your line from exchange to house the line going out of the exchange isn't any bigger
therefore as more ppl go online it will get slower
