Fellow Orangers (or whatever collective Orange users are called)
Just wanted to let you know that Orange are fiddling with their email servers so expect all sorts of issues over the coming months (or could that be years). As an aside I have been in IT for over 35 years and have seen and heard everything.
I have some suggestions for Orange to improve their service levels if anyone there is listening;
1. Close your Indian contact centres or train people properly and at least inform them when you fiddle with your email servers. It is too late when someone in India reading from a script has informed someone to totally reconfigure their PC only to discover it is Orange which is at fault.
2. Do not work on a live email server (and the routes to it) until you have thoroughly tested backups / mirrors and then inform people when a switchover is planned.
3. Have an RSS feed or a newscast or something so when you fiddle with your email servers (drop port 25, pretend another port / server / IP address is available, alter the DNS tables, turn off relaying, alter firewalls and routers etc) your members are aware so they an expect disruption.
4. Do not wait until someone threatens to leave (asks for a MAC code) before you start taking action.
5. Do not transfer someone who has got through to your escalation service (when they requested a MAC code) to your Indian contact centre.
I am going to BT after many years of Orange connectivity, it is a sad day when a supposedly professional company treats its paying users this way.
