I don't think I'm brave enough to plug the Livebox back in just yet Smile

- I'll be proposing a new one from Orange this evening as I do miss the 2nd line feature.

I will also ask Orange why I am not achieving a 7000kbps sync rate with an attenuation of 34 - is it something to do with the "noise" on the line? - could there still be a line fault? - Could it be something to do with the Netgear I currently have connected?

Can you post the stats from the Netgear ?

If you're not sure how, see this :

If the profile has improved then stopped it probably does mean a noisy line which of course caused the original drop. But it's not so noisy to cause the SNRM to drop quickly enough for the DLM to revise your profile downwards again.

In your first post you say that you have seen 5Mb throughput and that's at least the sort of throughput you should be getting with an attenuation of 33dB/34dB

The stats from the Netgear:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4416 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 34 db 10.5 db
Noise Margin 10 db 24 db

Is it correct that the sync / connection speed (& therefore the IP Profile) will not be changed unless there is a new handshake between the Netgear & the BT equipment? (which as I understand it will not happen unless there is a dropout and / or I switch the router on / off?)

You could try a re-sync but do it very soon, before 2pm if possible to get the best sync.

Best way is to power off the router, wait for 5 minutes then power up again.

This way the DLM won't think it's a problem Wink

But if you're going to do it, do it very soon Exclamation

Just read your reply at 1:55 and tried a re-sync with the router back on at 14:05

Here are the new stats:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4448 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 34 db 10.5 db
Noise Margin 15 db 21 db

Very slight increase in the sync speed & the Noise Margin is up to 15 (& is fluctuating down to 11 following the reset according to Routerstats)

p.s. Why the importance of 2pm?

Certainly still looks like a noisy line.

Autumn through Winter noise starts to increase mid afternoon and starts to decline from between 6am and 8am so the best sync is obtained usually between 10am and 2pm.

You can check this if you have RouterstatsLite running. Downsttream SNRM will drop from say, 10dB down to 6dB during the "dark hours", a 4dB decrease isn't unusual.

I'd leave the router now but keep a check on the IP Profile and synch via the BT speedtester.

EDIT : your synch will need to increase to >4544kbps <5088kbps for the next IP Profile of 4000kbps

Thanks for the explanation and so close to the next IP Profile level !

Just a quick update - the new Livebox "Mini" has been sent so should arrive within the next few days. The Netgear remains up with the sync speed of 4448kbps , (& IP Profile still at 3500kbps), so unless something changes I'm now going to leave well alone until the new router arrives...

That was quick - the new Livebox arrived this morning and is now connected at a sync rate of 4160kbps & working well.

I don't think Routerstats Lite works with the "mini" (Thomson version), but I have emailed the owner to see if anything can be done.

I'll provide an update over the next few days...

I've had a response from the developer of routerstats lite.

The below is beyond me but can anyone provide the following for the Thomson version of the Livebox Mini:

a) telnet login address
b) the command to display the stats data
c) and a cut 'n paste copy of the data

I'm not sure but try this :

Start > Run > Cmd > Enter

Type telnet 192.168.1.1 > Enter

Login using the normaluserid and password > Enter

Type menu > Enter

This will show you a list of menu commands.

Look for something like "stats" or perhaps "connection"

Just noticed something else - every so often when I pick up the telephone, the noise margin drops from say 14 to 3 or 12 to 5 etc.,

I only use corded phones and have now tried 3 with similar results - should I try a brand new one?

Is this a problem? - any thoughts on whether it needs a resolution?

The telephone is plugged into the filter that is plugged directly into the master socket....

Try new microfilters, I use ADSL Nation's XF-1e, very reliable.
