It's probable that it's BT fault, they may not have carried out Orange's instructions correctly and have put you on a fixed 500kbps service rather than the IPStream rate adaptive service.
Okay - spoke to Orange on Friday who advised me that they would pass the matter onto BT to get the speeds increased.
After running a BT Speedtest this morning, my results are as follows:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 2575 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :8096 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 4000 Kbps
Looks like the IP Profile has mysteriously increased back to where it was (I presume..). Should I be happy with these speeds?

Not yet, your IP Profile should be 7000kbps for a sync. of 8096kbps. If it doesn't get to somewhere near 7000kbps within a week then there is still something wrong.
I have had regular contact with Orange technical support department. We have had regular back and fourths regarding my internet connection speed. After consistently being promised a mythical ‘text message’ from an engineer, I finally lost patience and escalated the call. A supervisor called me and advised that due to the number of other Orange customers recently added to the exchange, I can now only receive a maximum of 0.5 megs. Obviously this is through no fault of my own and presumably they still expect me to pay the maximum amount each month.
I work from home and need a good internet connection, the one I receiving not Three weeks ago. Any ideas where I can take this?
Thanks
Glen
I have got the same problem, but worse. My upload speed is unbelieveably 7kbs. can you believe it? i think even dial up is quicker than this.
