Looking for help as I'm starting to pull my hair out just now. Here's a run down of events.
1. Broadband price raise from Orange - £19 to £25
2. Get WARNING letter stating I have gone over their Fair Use Policy - 41GB in a month. Ask me to cut back at peak times. Fine.
3. Go ahead and cap me anyway. 0.5Mbps from 6 to midnight. Fuming.
4. Decide to switch to o2 (now Sky) access package. Get MAC code from Orange.
5. Activation date set for 23rd of September.
6. No confirmation of activation from o2 (now Sky) via text or email on 23rd or next day or next day.
7. Plug in o2 (now Sky) box. Connected to internet!
8. I'm still bloody capped!!! AAAaarraghhghghghg!!! Why and how is this possible? A new ISP but I'm still capped?
9. Still haven't received actual confirmation of switch over. What is BT doing?
10. Also I seem to be paying for Orange broadband from 26 sept to 24 Oct. Im not even with Orange any more. Is this their 30 day policy in action.
I may be wrong but the cap is part of BT's system rather than Orange's so you'll need to contact o2 (now Sky) to get it removed. Having said that, they will almost certainly identify a problem and may resolve it before you can contact them.
Yes, you are correct in that the 30 days notice of termination commences on the migration day.
o2 (now Sky) are usually very timely with their notifications, you probably had several texts between signing up and receiving the router, so I'm surprised that they have failed to confirm activation.
As of today, the 26th of Sept, I have full speed again with o2 (now Sky). No half meg cap. Huurraahhh!! Three days after the activation date.
Orange where fine, for the most part, whilst I was with them, but a few things really annoyed me.
1. Why is a warning letter about my usage concerning the months April - May sent out in August???
2. Why do they word the letter as a warning - this letter told me to ease off at peak times, but DID NOT say I would be capped - when they are going to cap you anyway??
3. Why do they not inform you when you have been capped and at what speed???
4. Why did they not respond to my queries regarding this letter???
5. Also, how long does it take before account and email is shut down with Orange??
This debacle really soured my relationship with Orange. I think they're being really devious about this issue.
FINAL NOTE: FOR THOSE WITH A CAP WHO ARE SWITCHING PROVIDER DONT EXPECT THE CAP TO DISAPPEAR ON THE DATE OF ACTIVATION. THIS WILL HAPPEN SOMETIME DURING THE 10 DAY STABILIZATION PERIOD. IF THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN, CONTACT YOUR NEW ISP AND GET THEM TO SPEAK TO BT.
Oh, and also, why when I ran speedtest.net did it recommend, I think it was Birmingham as the RECOMMENDED server. This when I was with Orange???? Now with o2 (now Sky) the recommended server is London as I thought it would be being where I'm based.
