I lived at home with my mum and her partner. Her partner fell ill and passed away which meant all of his assets where frozen and it has gone to Probate to decide who gets what of his estate between my mum and his son. The BT phone line was in his name and got cut off, (his son is refusing to transfer the line into my name) but the Boradband was in my name with Orange, leaving me helpless as you need the BT line.
Could anybody help me out and advise me where I stand on cancelling or suspending my contract until this is all sorted out.
It's a bit too late now but if you had spoken to BT and explained the situation, I'm sure they would have produced a bill for the executors closed the account, of course with the authority of the executors, then transferred the account name into yours.
Phone them now and explain exactly what you have said in your post. They won't need any authority except yours or your Mum's if the account has already been closed. It shouldn't be a problem re-instating the connection but it will cost you something. Check if you can have the same number because a change will cause you problems with the broadband, explain this to them.
Once the line is re-connected check to see if broadband is still connected.
If it isn't then...........best of luck with Orange CS !
But you need to act quickly, phone BT now.......don't wait.
I forgot to mention that this has been ongoing for around 9 months. Not something I really thought about at the time due to lots of other things going on.
Yea, the phone line got cut off 9 months ago but because we don't own the house and all of the assets have been frozen, we can't get a new line installed and we can't get the old one reactivated. I will be moving house soon hopefully so I don't want to go with a different ISP or reconnect the broadband at the house we are still at.
