The Speedtouch Modem requires a change to the registry which Thomson made available some time ago as a download but sadly is no longer on their website!
The file is available to download from the site above however after registering on the site I was not able to download it for some reason.
However, I was able to obtain the original address of the Thomson download page from another site (it of course was an old link!)
I then pasted the link into the web archive site Way Back Machine (http://www.archive.org/web/web.php) and hey presto obtained the registry file!
I then followed the instructions from the old Thomson page as follows:
"1. Change the driver settings from BULK to ISO. This can be achieved by downloading the registry update to your desktop, then double click to add the changes to the registry. Once completed, unplug and re-plug the SpeedTouch 330 for the changes to take effect. This can be checked using the SpeedTouch Diagnostics (USB transfer mode = Isochronous)
2. Adapt the Windows TCP/IP received windows (RWIN) size to allow for the higher rate download. These changes are different for each Windows operating system version, and we therefore recommend consulting your Windows documentation or reading through articles such as those available at Broadband Reports."
I followed the instructions and now have a connection speed of 6345 kbps and upload speed of 370kbps!
Click on the link then scroll down to "Save file to your PC: click here"
IMPORTANT: This only works with XP and version 3 of the modem (the silver one!) As advised by Thomson, back up your registry before attempting the change above.

I was also transferred to this Broadband Starter (Off Net) from 1 August. My monthly charge is also £19.99 - down from my previous "Unlimited 2Mb" @ £27.99 per month. So I was financially happier anyway.
Up until yesterday evening my speeds remained around 1920Kbps down + 241Kbps up, but this morning they have gradually increased to currently 4568Kbps down + 375Kbps up.
Hopefully this will continue to improve over the next few days up to my supposed current max of around 6Mb ?
However, like previous posters I cannot ascertain anywhere the details of Broadband Starter (Off Net) - the Orange web site says absolutely nothing about it .
