I had broadband with Wanadoo and closed my account in July 2006 when I moved out.
I was paying by direct debit and as far as I was concerned, all money due had been paid. 2 weeks ago I had a letter from a debt collecting agency chasing an unpaid closing bills on behalf of Orange (which now owns Wanadoo)
I hadn't heard anything from Organe in 3 years, although I moved out my old flatmates still keep my mail to this day and never received anything from them, nor did I get a phone call ever.
I don't keep my statements for more than 2 years so I e-mailed and called Orange customer "care" and called their line a few times to ask why they never tried to contact me and how it was possible that they didnt collect the charge at the time since I was on direct debit but got absolutely nowhere!
Worse, last time I called their advisor was obviously lying to me, saying they charge had come back unpaid (untrue, I rang my bank to check), and that I should speak to the debt collecting agency which was actually a part of Orange (a lie) and would know all about my account (another lie, all they knew that I owed Orange that money) and refused to pass me to a supervisor and got extremely rude.
I paid the debt collecting agency as they were harrassing me, I am going to write to Orange customer care, not by e mail but by letter but not holding my breath.
