We've had Orange BB for 3 years. We changed providers from Orange to BT by the MAC process. Our normal payment pattern with Orange is the 22nd of each month. The connection with BT became active 21st April. We then received an invoice from Orange for the 22nd April to 21st May. We had cancelled the direct debit with Orange to stop payment on 22nd April as we were with BT from 21st April.
We have now had an email from Orange adding a late payment charge to our account for non-payment. I've just rang Orange and said they shouldn't be charging us from 22nd April as we changed to BT on 21st April via the MAC process. Orange then said that when BT activated the MAC code, our 30 day cancellation period with Orange became active and so we were liable to pay for 22nd April to 21st May, even though we were with BT from 21st April. Is this correct??
I believed that as we went through the MAC process, as the provider changed on 21st April, there would be no more payments to Orange.
If we had not gone through the MAC process and just cancelled our account with Orange, I could understand perhaps paying for another month. I thought the MAC process protected against that.
So, should Orange still be charging us from 22nd April??
