Contacted the Orange helpdesk and got put through to India...... I was told that there have been quite a few people with this problem and that it is something to do with their equipment and a software upgrade !! Not sure if this was true or just something to make me feel as though it was getting looked into. They did say that it WAS being sorted but could not give me any idea of how much time we would be down.
Lets hope it is sorted soon..... any more than 1 more day and I am back on to the accounts section asking for a month free. They were quick offering it before when I was down for about 1 week.
Just got up, and found broadband connection has been restored.
Hope everyone else has the same success.
Two full days without broadband might not seem like the end of the world, but my wife is at an important point in her university studies, so had to pay for childcare while she went to the library and used their internet.
Jonathan - What I have learned from all this is Orange need to be updating their service status message when things like this are happening. They need a service status webpage, and their indian staff need better training, and need to be kept up-to-date on network outages. I think it's was the lack of information and frustrating language barrier that's been the most annoying thing about the last few days.

Yep - happy bunny ! Just ran a speed test and I'm hitting 6.3Mb/sec download and 480K upload.

Agreed 150% ! Full disclosure in these circumstances would make Orange appear to be a more responsible company. Giving no indication of problems/outages OTOH leaves a bad taste. Interruptions to net access are annoying (but understandable) and they can be worked around (I took my netbook to McDonalds and had a McFlurry whilst using their free WiFi last night !). Being left in the dark WRT your connection is very much more frustrating.
BTW, Jonathan. If your input helped prioritise repair efforts in our area, then thank you. It's VERY much appreciated !
Hi there, great to read you are connected.
ciderVisor - I'd love to say yes I was out there with my toolkit and repaired it myself, but no, the issue had already been logged and was with the engineers.
I agree with your comments about service status and it is something I am feeding back, to see why it was not updated in this case.
Regards

Yes I am having the same problems in the Dunfermline area. Siemens modem/router tellsme I am connected but no access to emails, internet etc. Come on Orange and tell us when it will be fixed
I'm in Dunfermline too. I first noticed that I had no Internet connection on Wednesday morning. I've got a Livebox and my second line (VoIP) phone was working, but now even it's offline.
I've had fantastic uptime with Orange until now (one or two outages to date which lasted less than an hour apiece). I'm just slightly relieved to hear that this seems to be a problem affecting users in the East of Scotland and not a fault on my line or with my Livebox.
I was disappointed to find no 'Network Status' indicator on the Orange site - I'm sure I've seen one in the past. Does anyone know of a currently operational one ?
Hi. I am in Dunfermline too and am currently connected to the Dunfermline exchange. My broadband connection stopped working on Tuesday, however, I did not have any a landline either. I contacted BT and they visited the Dunfermline exchange and fixed a fault at the Dunfermline exchange. I now have a working landline but my broadband is not working still.
Off course I get no help from Orange. BT confirm that my connection is setup for Broadband and is working as expected. This is confirmed by the static @ LED on my livebox, yet, I cannot connect to the net in any way. So, what I don't undersdtand is how the livebox thinks I am connected to the internet when I am not. I suspect that someone has screwed up the Dunfermline exhchange and BT have only fixed there part and not the Orange LLU bundle. This could take some time to fix Aaaaarrgggh.
