Not such a newbie question....it's only in circumstances like this that it really matters.
There are 2 ways :
1. If you look at http://www.samknows.com/broadb...ecker2.php and enter your phone number and postcode it will tell you what LLU ISPs are in your exchange. ISPs usually won't put you on BT's IPStream if they have LLU.
2. If you check your router stats, if your upstream sync rate is 448kbps then chances are you are on IPStream.

Orange LLU is available at my number/postcode, so I'm assuming that's what I've been allocated.
I note borednow means of seeing if you are LLu'd or not. After checking on samknows, I should be LLU, but then my router stats show my upstream sync rate is 448kbps which means I am IPStream ?
My guess is that local exchanges are being upgraded, perhaps to ADSL2+ and something has gone wrong with the process. That could explain why PPPoE connection works.
If you post your Livebox (or whatever router you use) stats there may be a clue in these.

The sure way is if you can connect to www.speedtester.BT.com then you are on IPStream.
Which is strange if your local exchange has Orange LLU.
It reduces Orange's profitability by having to buy in BT's IPStream rather than using their LLU. Usually the only reason is that LLU has reached its maximum capacity of users at that particular exchange.
Are you in the same area as the other posters in this thread ? If so it may explain the problem as being an LLU upgrade to increase capacity.
No, I'm not in same area.
I've been with freeserve/wanadoo/orange for years on broadband and when our exchange was LLU'd by Orange, I automatically assumed I was transferred!!! Obviously I've slipped the net. Certainly not going to say anything though as I'm getting download speeds of 6000kbps and no problems so far!!( famous last words, I know!)
