Broadband Unlimited - £19.56 a month, up to 8 Meg speed, Livebox wireless modem, Talk service and unlimited use (fair use policy applies)
And on initial line tests, by BT, my line is supposed to be capable of between 8 and 9 Mbps. I have always experienced between 6 and 7 Mbps, which i think reasonable. I live 0.79 miles awayrom the exchange. I am connecting via wifi g standard at 54Mbps.
Recently, my speed has dropped to around 2and 3 Mbps, and my stats have changed in the sys info of my router config:
I notice the conection is G.DMT rather than ADSL+ or whatever it used to be, and he type has now gone to interleave. This indicates a problem on the line? My downstream shows as 8096 i presume thats because of my package, as i have never achieved that speed! and the upstream looks accurate. Any ideas? All filters are ok, tried resetting livebox, and have tried a wired (Ethernet) connection, no joy. By reading this forum, i dont really want to ring Orange!!
Hi, thanks for your reply, sorry for late reply to it! I am on the Steeton exchage known to BT as MYSTE. It is supposedly capable of between 8-9Mbps. I however know differently now!!
I can't get that BT.speedtester thing to work, as it asks for a login, and when i say 'myfirstname@mylastnamexx.orangehome.co.uk' it says that is incorrect? How do i log in to this service?
I never noticed the change, but i have noticed a post somewhere regarding a change after 31st January. Could it be the same problem?
If so, shouldn't Orange be charging less, as they are surely in breach of contract as since Jan 31 they have been supplying me with a lower package? Surely trade descriptions should come into this? If the problem isn't rectified i shall be contacting the ISPA OFCOM and anyone else i can. I had trouble with BT, they cut me off two weeks before i started with Orange, getting my MAC code was like drawing blood from a stone (before the new regulations regarding MAC codes) they then spent about 8 hours diagnosing the problem before they bothered to check if i even had a connection! Anyway enough of that!! (BTW i ended up complaining to the head of the call centre in india, a very nice gentleman he was too!!)
However, i am not willing to be treated like rubbish as a customer again!!

yeah just realised, i was trying my email address lol
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Your DSL connection rate: 8096 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 7000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 2867 kbps
I just want to be able to sort this without fussing too much, hate contacting customer services for any compnay, but ISP's seem to be terrible, i was with AOL in the dial-up days, and aske for info on broadband by post, and they signed me up for it, and began chargin, while i was still on a dialup connection, luckily i noticed it before any damage was done!!
Well having checked your exchange, Orange has never had LLU there so you must always have been on IPStream rather than ADSL2+. The only LLU ISPs available are Talk Talk and o2 (now Sky)/BE.
and run the tests again but I think your line has had some instability recently and is in the process of recovering...it takes some time for the IPstream bRAS profile to stabilise. What you should not do is to keep re-syncing or switching the router on and off. If you do then the auto system will see this as instability on the line and it will take even longer to recover.
Yeah, i must be getting mixed up, although my speeds were definitely higher. Surely speed instbility doesn't last for a few weeks? If so, then something else is wrong. o2 (now Sky) here i come!! Only problem is my dad and i use Orange mobile, so my mum can call us for free (she has no mobile). Are there any other providers who provide free or cheap calls on a second line?
Surely speed instbility doesn't last for a few weeks?
Of course it can.....until the cause of the instability is corrected. So long as the SNRM keeps fluctuating the IP Profile will continue to adjust to ensure a constant connection otherwise you would get continuous disconnections.

But how will Orange know that you have a problem unless you talk to them Surely you don't think that there are people in Orange sat at desks watching all the BB connections, waiting for a problem to occur ?
