Have gone back to Orange broadband after being away for 5 weeks, and suddenly my son is having problems online gaming with his playstation3, it signs him in then straight back out. Orange say contact Sony, Sony say it a problem with ports that need opening on the router, they give my port numbers to give Orange to open, but Orange say they can't open them, but its their router, i just don't get, at screaming point now, don't understand why we having these problems with playstation 3 when we didn't have them before when we were with Orange broadband,AAARGH !
I put my PlayStation 3 into DMZ mode on my Livebox. DMZ opens every port for the specified IP address, which is warned to be dangerous. But because I use my PC for the majority of my - extremely limited, thanks to Orange - Internet usage, I only use the PS3 for online gaming, not browsing. So mainly it only connects to PSN and game servers, which are obviously trusted.
THIS link may help you with setting up the PS3 side of things, such as setting a static IP. You'll need a decent bit of intuition though, because the instructions are a little vague. However, for the second part, PartForward.com will have better information for setting things up on your router.
