I am currently house-sitting for an uncle and noticed that his Livebox is unsecured.

I've been trying for ages to activate either WEP or WPA (at this point imm not fussy!) but the setting never seems to change and the networrk remians unsecure

am i being a moron and missed something simple or is this a known issue/fix?

I've rebooted it a couple of times to no joy and as its not mine i dont know his password until i can contact hime so I cant factory reset.

any suggestions appreciated!

Set security for WPA only if you are using a MAC, Vista or third party console / device. WEP or WPA only or WEP only tends to be for XP, 2000 etc.

Just make sure the livebox is in pairing mode when you try to connect it with a security method that isn't unsecured.

Factory reset livebox = pull out power, hold button number 1 on livebox, keep it held in, plug power back in, livebox goes into programmation mode (solid @, arrow and phone light), let go of number 1 key, wait about 2 minutes

Pairing mode = press number 1 key once when livebox is in idle mode or connected to internet

Admin page URL: 192.168.1.1 or configuration.adsl

Username: admin

Password: admin

Location of security method: Configuration > Advanced > Wireless

WEP key location: on the sticker of livebox, additionally in config pages under Security > Wireless Connection

Cheers guys, I've tried all the above and it still wont activate security

I have been going in and setting it to secure, the livebox disconnectes and does its thing, but it is never secure when it reconnects.

I've tried WEP only, WPA only and WPA/WEP the setting just never seems to change from 'unsecure' [even though the black dot is next to WEP etc]

also, the WEP key is there

Still havn't heard back what the password is so can't factory reset till then or I will lose all net completely.

Ive dug out a couple of ethernet cables for now
