Hi all lets start by saying im a pc engineer i used to have my own business till some friend ripped me off so i know my pcs well.
Any how ive been with Orange for 8 yrs now and things were ok untill i saw the range of the BT hub and i was considering the change over. so i phoned Orange and said i was thinking of leaving etc.
But they convinced me to stay and offered me a live box and insted of paying £17.99per month it went down to £14.99 well that was good plus id have a wirless router.
Now my old router was an edimax very good suplied it myself set it up fantastic speeds uploads of 80kbs to 156kbs good for me.
But since having the live box its crap uploads are stuck at 28kbs downloads are fine. So in my wisdom i contacted the Orange support 4 times and as usual i ether could not understand them (not a racist remark its just hard to understand anyone on a quiet line that doesnt speak good english ) This lead nowhere except being told i should get at least 156kbs, but i dont, i have tried vista tcp patches disabaling anti virus firwalls etc.
and still its rubbish 28kbs uploads speed. even tested it on the speed tests results are
Last Result:
Download Speed: 2214 kbps (276.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 241 kbps (30.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 291 ms
I know its to do with the live box. can someone help as i upload to my website a lot and also use apps like rapidshare and uttorent
thanks.
Well from that data it looks like you're on the bog standard LLU rather than their LLU ADSL2+ or the bought-in Ipstream and probably quite some distance from your local exchange.
The most indicative data is the latency.....291ms
Where did you obtain the data ?....as you probably know it's best to use several speed testers so you get a more averaged result, some servers will give higher latency results.
The upload speed is what I would expect if your router is syncing at the normal 288kbps but if it's correct then the latency is the problem.
Then you should be getting better stats than those, even if a quarter mile is straight line distance. Was/is the Edimax a modem or router ?...presuming it's just a modem as you wanted wifi.
Can you post your full router stats showing SNRM, attenuation etc ?
Do you have any extension boxes wired from the main linebox ?
If you have an NTE5 main BT linebox try plugging the router into the test socket behind the removable lower half front plate and taking the stats from there.
hi hope this is what you wanted and yes im direct to phone socket
the edimax was a modem router i now use the livebox only

I hate the way the new effing livebox shows stats....absolute total cr@p
D/S Att = 13.0dBm
D/S SNRM = 30.2dB
U/S Max Rate = ????...what is it ?
D/S Max Rate = ????...what is it ?
Anyway, your D/S SNRM @ 30.2dB is ridiculous
You're capped at 2272 by Orange manipulating the SNRM.
With a D/S Attenuation of 13dBm you're practically in spitting distance of the exchange so you should be capable of at least 6500kbps.
If the Edimax is a wireless router and you don't need the livebox for voip then ditch it and hook up the Edimax or cable up the 2 using the livebox as the first if you use voip.
I have rigged up the edimax as a swich cause the live box only had two ports. unfortunatly i took the arials off the edimax and lost them. thats why i got the live box. i dont use the voip . so do you think its the livebox at fault. or just crap speeds, have i cause to cancel the contract. if not i think ill have to invest in a new router .
