Ok, I follow all the prompts and stuff..Easy, Wireless, Scan, SSID, WEP key, pause and the rest....ables, but the uPnP on I disable....then when it comes to the connection test....it says the attempt to find the IP address timed out???? What does this mean and how do I resolve it????? I put the livebox in pairing mode (by pressing the 1 on the livebox....and I know it is in pairing mode because the led flickers slowly) And I know that it can pair...because when I turn off the security it pairs straight away....????
Failure to find the IP Address means it's not connecting to the livebox. You mention the security. It's advised if you want to use it for online gaming to set it to Low (Disabled)
As long as you have a decent firewall on your Computer i.e Zone Alarm then you will still be protected.
Unless i've missed what you've said this should give you the help you need. :p
Yeah I tried that guide...it did not work for me ?
The excact same thing happened to me. It works perfectly to start. It finds the Livebox i put in the WEP and select all the security settings then it asks me to test the connection and it just says Failed (The attempt to find the IP address timed out)
I dont know what that means I've tried everything from changing the firewall to low following numorous threads and videos, talking to experts in stores and contacting Orange and still no luck.
I just posted this somewhere else too, but I thought it might help you.
Try changing the wireless channel (Livebox config, Security, Wireless connection) from 1 to 2.
Also, try making a wired connection first (using the yellow port on the Livebox and the ethernet port on the PS3) to see if it will pick up the address that way.
One of these worked for me (not sure which!!!) and I was getting exactly the same problem as you.
Good luck.
After several frustrating hours, I came across tobysmum's post - and it worked! I changed the channel from 9 to 2.
Thanks, I'm hugely grateful!!!('')
Update - after a week's gaming with no problems, the PS3 lost its connection again. Took me almost a day to get it back, tried all the usual options. In the end it was disabling the firewall which worked - just downloading zonealarm now as cover.
Second update a few weeks later, following more connection problems
I turned off the firewall on my Livebox and also removed the WEP security. Then, pressed the pairing button and went through the usual PS3 set up on "easy". It worked fine and got the connection.
I then went back to the Livebox and reinstated the WEP and medium firewall securities. I checked on the PS3 and the connection was now gone. However, if you go through the set up again, this time inserting the WEP key on the "Custom" set up, you should find it will be okay.
This took me a few days to figure after going down many blind alleys! Hope it helps someone out there.
