Hi, I have been using the Orange livebox on vista for about 3 months. I have two wired connections, the red ethernet cable going to my Vista desktop computer, and another coming from he yellow port going to an XP computer. This week everyday it randomly dis-connects me from my internet connection on Vista, but connection remains on my XP system.
Usually a factory reset solves this but its annoying to do that everyday, especially in mid conversation on msn.
Out of curiosity i switched the ethernet connections on the livebox so my vista is connected to the yellow port and XP to the red and i get a connection on my Vista computer but not the XP system.
I thought about it being a fault in the livebox ethernet port, but a factory reset fixes it without fail. After about half an hour on one call to Orange helpline they suggested all different methods to fix it but in the end resorted to the factory reset method.
I tried going to the configuration page but for the first time it come up saying "connection refused" which is puzzling me. I run AVG 8.0 on both systems if that helps.
This is getting really annoying and am wondering if there are any other ways of solving this problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Just rebooting the livebox does not fix it? You need to do a factory reset?
Rebooting your PCs have no effect?
Can you access the configuration pages (192.168.1.1) from either PC?
If you can, you could try disabling UPnP. Could also try turning off the digital tv option, though this should only affect the yellow port.
When can't your XP connect after you switch ports, after your Vista machine fails or directly after a reset?
When the vista machine fails, do you loose access to everything or just the Internet. Can you still use MSN, E-mails, access the local network including 192.168.1.1?
Rebooting the computer has no effect, though resetting the box does but i dont want to do that daily as somedays it doesnt work,
sometimes i have to leave it for about 2 hrs before i can access the internet again.
I cannot access the config page from another PC,
I cant connect with my XP PC when i switch the ports over.
I cant connect when my Vista machine fails, and when my Vista machine fails i cannot access anything; the internet, msn, e-mails or the config page 192.168.1.1 doesnt work.... Hope that helps
How do you reset the livebox? just turning it off then on or turning it on holding button 1?
Your AVG is it the free version or the full Internet Security version? If it includes the firewall, have you selected the "Small home or office network" profile in the firewall configuration?
I find it strange you can't access 192.168.1.1 in your internet browser from either PC. Can you ping this address from a command prompt? What local IP's are your PC's given ie do they start 192.168.1.x ?
Have you recently made any configuration changes to your PC's such as installing new products or upgrades?
I'm not on my Livebox at the minute.. So i can't give you the exact route without getting it wrong... But log in to your livebox... Your looking for the setting that turns off the Livebox TV thing... As this uses the red port...
I'm sure someone with a Livebox in front of them can put this clearer.. But if you disable the Digital TV Red Ethernet thing... You should have internet for both.

wolfy200222 is unable to log into her livebox too be able to do this for some reason.
0_o My livebox reports it as the yellow port:
Quote:
Digital TV configuration
Ethernet ports auto-configuration is currently : Enabled
The current configuration enables you to connect either a set-top box or a computer to the yellow Ethernet port on your Livebox's Ethernet ports.
If you disable the Ethernet port auto-configuration, you will have to set up the yellow Ethernet port manually before connecting a set-top box.
Resetting the Livebox is as simple as holding the 1 button on the livebox.. Keep hold of it for maybe 5-10 seconds... Unplug the router at the mains while still holding the one button... Waiting another 5-10 seconds.. Swicthing it on again while still holding the 1 button.. Then it should start to flash differently... It will have reset.
Of course with resetting comes the duty of if you had any port forwarding rules set you will have to reset them too.. But if not then you should be fine...
i have a similar problem with my livebox, i can be plugged into the red socket, then the connection drops out, all the lights are on as normal but no internet, plug into the yellow socket or unplug the livebox for a few seconds and it works ok again, i have to do this sometimes twice in an hour. i have mentioned this problem to the idiots on the helpdesk but they pussyfoot around it and go off subject, i would suspect it is a fault with the livebox that they don't want to admit to. i don't think it is a very good piece of equipment as i cant remember if i have had a week where i haven't had to unplug, reset or do something to get it working, but then what do you expect for free
