I've been with Orange for roughly a year now on the 8Mb package and was a happy customer till about february this year. Essentially, prior to February I was getting bandwith speeds of around 2.4mb and I was satisfied with that considering my distance from my exchange (about a mile away). Then suddenly my speed dropped to 0.5mb and has stayed there ever since. I have called tech support (phone and email) several times and gone through all there technical support hoops, only to get 5 line tests performed and still no explanation. Even with leaving Orange threats. Clearly reading through the different posts I can see I am not the only one and this is unacceptable!! I am essentially going to leave since I am out of contract but I will miss the free international calls (can always go back to skype!). I did notice through the BT wholesale speed checker last year that my line was capable of 2mb+ but since my continual complaints through Orange last month my line is now rated at 0.5mb. How is this possible? I checked with my neighbours with other ISPs and they have no problems with speed at least.
If anyone has had any success with this problem it would be much appreciated.
Cheers!

on LLU providing you havnt been provisioned on a low speed there will be a problem with the phone socket in the house try getting BT to upgrade your socket to a NTE2000
while running these tests it is vital you have a wired connection running at 100mbps for true results

Consider whether your line is capable of a higher speed. If you are a long way from the exchange you may be obtaining your best speed. Check here and tell us what BT say about the speed you can get:

Check your line hasn't been capped because you exceed the download limit. There are reports that Orange are putting the cap on all the time instead of the hours of 6pm til midnight.
Thanks the_tech_guy for your advice. I stayed with Orange with no resolution of my problems since my initial post and waited until o2 (now Sky) installed their equipement in my exchange. 02 just switched me over this morning for a tenner a month and here are my stats now:
Orange tried to offer me 6 months free at 512 and also tried to tell me that no one in Belfast gets faster than 512 (cheeky) . Anyway I urge anyone who can leave Orange to do so especially when they fail to deliver. Whether the problem lies with Orange or BT is debatable but it in the end Orange are accountable and need to sort out there service and tech support.
