Hi,
I have installed a Netgear RangeMax Wirless PCI Adapter WPN311 in my Grandsons Computer a Dell 2400 running XP Pro.
I then tried to connect to his father's Router which is an Orange Wireless Router Livebox EA50. The Netgear wireless adapter picked up the signal 100% and I then connected to the Router. No problems so far. The netgear icon in the start tray is full green. Connection status shown as "connected to Router"
However, when I then sought to use the Internet there was no connection. In the Netgear installation guide it says the that when connection status is shown as Connected to Router: Wireless connection to the router is ok but the router is not connected to the internet. However, this is not the case becase Three other computers (using ethernet cable) and a Notebook ( wirless) are all working fine!!
If you could give me a series of things I need to check it would be greatly appreciated. You see it is a 100 mile round trip to my Grandsons
As it says you are connected, I assume you put the livebox into pairing mode and entered the security key correctly.
You say you can not access the internet. Do you mean websites or your e-mail etc as well? Can you access websites by their IP address instead of their domain names? This would suggest that your DNS server settings are not correct.
Can you access the livebox config pages by typing 192.168.1.1 into your internet browser? and can you access the other computers on the network? If so would suggest you have network access but not internet.
Is the default gateway / access point settings pointing to the IP address of the livebox (192.168.1.1)?
Many thanks for your help. Yes I went through the pairing mode and as I say the Netgear Adapter showed it connected to the Router.
I did not try email but I could not raise a website.
Again as I said the Netgear Adapter was telling me it was connected to the Router (Livebox) but not the internet.
There is no problem with the 3 computers that are hard wired in, nor a laptop computer.
I did not think to check access to other computers - I will do so.
I will try your point about DNS and check the Norton Firewall 360 settings. Where do I check the gateway/access point settings?
