hi All,
I've had Orange broadband (think it was originally the 2MB Home Starter package) for about 6 months and generally it's been OK. Not fast, but OK. However, in the last couple of weeks, the performance has plummetted to the point where I have to use my old freeserve dial-up account and the broadband is almost unusable.
It doesn't seem to be the throughput that's the problem - I've downloaded large files via ftp, ok, but browsing any normal site (like Orange.co.uk) takes forever and sometimes just times out.
Here are a few stats from my system:

I have made no hardware changes, line or phone changes and no software changes that I can think would make any difference. I think my upload/download usage has been around 2GB for the last few months, so I assume that this wouldn't be capped.
The only way to fix this is to move providers, I have just received my o2 (now Sky) box so I should be migrated my next week.
Orange are officially the worst network to get connected to.
Mmm. Can I move mid-contract?. (not that Orange are keeping their part of the contract anyway).
I have 3 months left on my contract [8meg unlimited for £5 a month - because I was stupid enough to take the lure to stay with them for another year]. So will have to pay a £15 penalty to leave - I'd pay alot more than that to get a decent service!
I can even send an important email tonight! The Orange network cannot find my works' public ip address to communicate to our email server! GGGGrrrrrrrrr!
I signed up with o2 (now Sky) yesterday and I had my new wireless router this morning, I also get a text everytime o2 (now Sky) have reached a certain stage in the setup of my account. Awesome service s far.
I just cant wait until the 12th of Dec [cut over date]..

Mmm. Why can't I simply cancel their direct debit?. I can do this with no moral guilt IMO. I pay them to give me a decent service. If they don't provide it, I don't see why I have to pay.
You can leave mid-contract.
Ask Orange for your MAC code, which they have to provide in 5 working days by law regardless of any contract or not.
Move to a real ISP then any remaining balance on your account is in dispute.
As Orange haven't provided you with a service and only a pathetic excuse for one you can then thrash it out with them.
Well I've been having the same problems and have now asked for my MAC code so am waiting. Its been slowing for the last few weeks but by last Sunday things got really bad when I was unable to load some websites including Orange's home pages, and email has been really slow whether I choose to use webmail or through Outlook Express it has been really frustrating.
Spoken to tech support and customer support a few times this week to no avail so I can appreciate the frustration anyone else is having on here.
Get out as soon as you can! I have migrated to PlusNet (because there were no unbundled deals on my exchange) - getting 6.5Mb consistently after Orange insisted I couldn't get more than 2Mb (and frequently got less) and in 3 months no connection issues. Saving £5 pm
No spam on PlusNet email - was getting 40+ a day from Orange.
Have just moved my daughter onto o2 (now Sky) - So far infinitely better than Orange!!!

I have exactly the same problem with my 8mb connection and same as you, it happened about 2-3 weeks ago.
When I do thinkbroadband speed test I have good results but surfing is as slow as back in the 90s with my 32k dial up and I can't play online with my PS3 as I keep getting disconnected (The connection is still up according to the livebox's led but not according to my PS3).
I have also noticed that it is worse in the evening than in the morning.
Well I got my MAC on Monday and ordered o2 (now Sky) and expect to be activated on 16th but web pages seem to be loading normally now - even Orange Home pages and the likes of play.com and CDWOW all seem ok. I'm not looking back though as o2 (now Sky) reckon I should get "up to 16meg". They have kept me well informed all the way.
I have just this minute switched to o2 (now Sky)'s ADSL 2+ service and the browsing speed is absolutely lightening. I click on a link and within a milisecond the next screen is there. Its quicker than some of my customer networks all for £7 a month!

i have been having the same problems, and im sure its down to that high 4294967273 dB (upstream) . mine has suddenly done the same, and the service is now terrible, but Orange dont seem to care at all, as they can see that the internet is working from there end. i have tried a netgear router on too, just to see if the livebox was faulty, but i get that same damn high noise level.
