Temporary Fix for anyone currently unable to reach Orange emails
Following on from my other thread I have found a successful workaround for the current routing issue stopping access to 0range/Freeserve/FSnet etc mail servers.
2) Within your Gmail account choose: Settings/Accounts/Get email from other accounts
3)For email address use member@<name of your account>
4)In User Name put the account name (the bit after @ in your email address)
5) Put in your password
6) In POP server put the POP3 server address from your current email client
(for freeserve.co.uk users this is pop.freeserve.net - check your email client to see what yours is)
7)My recommendations for the tick boxes underneath are:
- Yes to leave a copy of the emails on the server
- No to SSL
- Yes to labelling - if you allow scripted windows you can tag all the emails that come into the account to show they are from your 0range mail server
- No to archiving
(You may want to use your own custom settings)
8)Add Account
Gmail will then poll the 0range servers on a regular basis and download mail for you.
This works because Google's mails servers use a different route to reach 0range than our "alternative" ISPs (Be, Bulldog etc.)
Happy to take questions.
If you find it works OK please post below so others can see if it is worth doing.
Hopefully 0range will get the routing issue sorted but given it's a weekend maybe not as quickly as we would all like.
MASQ
ps as I write this emails seem to be coming back on stream (for me at least) so I'll leave this on the site in case it is needed by anyone else/in the future.

Thanks masqueraid,
I have tried your workaround and it works for me. I still cannot see my emails direct from Orange though.
I tried emailing AboveNet to see if they had an eta for a fix and they told me to talk to France Telecom/Orange. So I am confused as to where the problem lies.
Remember that Orange is wholly owned by France Telecom and it is their infrastructure which is currently at fault preventing connection to email and some other sites. TBH I think your ISP should be dealing with them not asking you to do it as an individual!
Many thanks for posting details of this google mail work around, it works great for me too.
I am a BE (o2 (now Sky)) customer but still using an old freeserve email account. My email suddenly stopped working a few days ago but I can now receive email via this workaround. I am still able to send email from my freeserve account using Outlook Express and the BE smtp server.
I've noticed BE have put a network status message on their web site which says:
"Currently there is an issue with the access to Polish and French based websites. This has already been escalated and we are awaiting for updates".
I spoke to Orange last night who only treated the problem as specific to my PC (even though I couldn't access freeserve from two pcs) and charged me quite a lot in the process. (50p/min call rate).
Many thanks for the suggestion.. A variation of it also works with Yahoo mail...
I've been in exactly the same sort of situation for over 48 hours as a recently transferered from Orange to BE (o2 (now Sky)) broadband.. for similar reasons to everyone else plus the fact they took down my web pages without notification.. see my blog at http://gregsnewblogcredo.blogs...chive.html
I have about 6 old freeserve addresses which I want to keep to save all the hassles of telling everyone about new addresses.
I was beginning to assume Orange were victimising ME fro not paying them any more!
Thanks for all the info. I just wanted to say that you can do the same if you have a Yahoo account: after you log in, choose "Options" from the top left, then "Mail Options", then "Accounts" from the left hand menu. Finally choose "Add or Edit and Account" and then choose the "Add" button. Fill in the details as per Masqueraid's mail above.
