About 3 weeks ago we were having trouble connecting to our email account which was fixed by resetting our information from wanaddo to orangehome.co.uk.
Since then we have only been able to receive emails while our computer is on and connected, any emails sent when it is off just completely disappear, not even bouncing back so that the people who sent them don't even know that they didn't get there, we have lost a lot of important work related emails... I have tried logging on to the Orange home page and mail2web but it is just the same with them. We have no problems sending or receiving while the computer is on so the technical helpline refuse to beliieve there is a problem and anybody else we have asked is mystified...you are my last hope, please help me!
Thanks for getting back so fast, it seems no-one has heard of this problem before...just my luck!
Am using outlook express, that is all I have ever used but recently I have been checking the Orange web page to sign on just in case that would work instead.
Will try your suggestion now and report back if it works...

I think this is a setting that's been changed, perhaps unintentionally either in OE or webmail. Check through everything because it is illogical that emails arrive in your webmail and fail to download when you log onto the internet AND then delete themselves from webmail.
It's more likely that they fail to arrive in webmail and it's just chance that you see some download while logged on.
Have you checked in webmail's Junk and Deleted folders ?
Thanks for getting back, the emails are not getting to webmail or OE while the computer is off, maybe that has nothing to do with it but it is the only pattern I've seen in the Three weeks of having trouble. The same person can email when it is on and it will get through but if they email when it is off it doesn't.
I know it doesn't make sense...
Well no, if they aren't reaching webmail then they won't get to OE....nothing to your Orange email address goes direct to OE.
All I was saying is that it may be sheer coincidence that you see emails download from webmail to OE when the PC is on......there may be others that still don't download while the PC is on but you would never know, if they didn't arrive in webmail.
Do you keep a copy of all emails on webmail after they're downloaded to OE ?
Have you sent yourself any test emails from OE ?
Have you created any OE Message Rules concerning receiving emails ?
Switched on this morning, no messages (before the problem there would have been about 10 inc spam), they have started coming in now it is on, but not the ones I have missed ( I believe).
Forgot to say that I have deleted spam and junk from webmail ( although there was hardly any as I don't go there normally, only recently to see if my missing emails could get throught there). I am assuming that by webmail you mean the service provided by the Orange website.
Would really appreciate it if anyone has a clue out there about what is wrong with my service, as all of the people I know and the helplines can't help me...and I am running out of hair!!
I have been looking at my webmail settings and went to anti-spam section, junk mail to inbox was highlighted and the bottom part about receiving a confirmation email was highighted, clicked on ok...
You have asked for junk mails* to be sent to:
Your Junk Mail folder
Your Inbox
*except for mails filtered by your blocked list
Would you like to receive a confirmation email from Orange before any unread emails in your Junk Mail folder are deleted?
and this error message came up:
Your message has not been sent for one of the following reasons:
The service may be temporarily unavailable, so please try again later.
Or, your message may have been blocked because it has similar characteristics to a known virus.
To make sure your computer is not infected and is protected against viruses, we recommend that you install virusprotection software such as McAfee VirusScan.
If your computer is clean, please try changing the subject of your email.
Have just performed a system scan and it came up clean so tried again and got the same message. does this provide a clue to anyone?
Can't identify a pattern, but the same people can send an email when the pc is on fail to when it is off...
This is what I cannot understand. Orange webmail receives emails into the Inbox whether your PC is on or not.
Look at it simplistically, Orange webmail does not keep track of everyone's PCs to identify if they are on or off.
It is your PC (when you log onto the internet) that tells Orange webmail "I'm here", so it makes no difference to webmail....those emails you do not receive have never arrived in webmail so are not there to send otherwise you would see them in webmail when you log on to webmail.
So it's either an Orange email server problem on the receiving side or it's the sending ISP's email server problem resulting in no email reaching the Orange receiving servers.
My intuition says that it's the Orange email servers that have the problem because historically they are known to be very prone to irrational behaviour. Also Orange webmail was graphically ungraded a couple of weeks ago which may well be having an influence.
