Hi,
I have just registered with this site. Orange is my mobile phone provider. Orange phoned me offering for £17 per month:
1)Phone line rental and free calls using the socket on the router which I have subsequently found out to be a VoIP port (Voice over Internet Protocol);
2) 8 meg unlimited broadband.
I currently hav a BT line and I am out of contract with Virgin for the broadband.
It sounded a decent offer, but then I heard nightmare stories about Orange broadband.
I would be grateful for any comments for or against.
(By the say I only use broadband for viewing (I don't down load))
but then I heard nightmare stories about Orange broadband.
I've been with Orange since Wanadoo days. Until June 2006 when Orange re-branded all was OK.....not brilliant, but OK.
If I was looking for an ISP today, I would choose either BE or o2 (now Sky).
Looking at the various forums, their customer service seems to be excellent, their technical service seems to be effective and their broadband seems to be consistently reliable.

Don't do it, Orange offer you the earth and give you nothing.
I started off with freeserve dial up (excellent) then Freeserve broadband (excellent) then along comes Orange with there UK name Wanadoo was ok till in dec 2005 my line was LLued (from the start constant disconnects), then they ditch the name Wanadoo for their main name Orange (steeply downhill from there), treated their original Freeserve customers appallingly i left with difficulty with the help of the ISPA in July 2006.
I have not had any problems since, my experience with Orange and from what ive read in the press since is that they havn't got a clue what they are doing, the support is well known on the broadband community as the worst in the business and expensive to boot.
Thanks for the varied views. I think I will not take the offer.
Stevelondon - I have never heard of BE. I have read good reviews of PlusNet for customer service and price. Would you rate BE above PlusNet in terms of these 2 criteria?
The reviews were links from this web site.

Hi shanicek,
From Orange i migrated to IDNet an excellent ISP my speed doubled as Orange had capped my line but lied saying 3 megs was the most my line cud handle (i live right next door to my exchange ) then I migrated to Be (bethere) for the last 18 months, excellent service also they are part of o2 (now Sky) but offer extra's (static IP's etc if needed) their site is HERE
also go Here
and Here for ISP ratings and forums should give you a better idea on making your mind up.
Support is free on o2 (now Sky)/Be and IDNet.
PlusNet belong to BT but i have heard their support is good check this link HERE its PlusNet community.
Good luck

You would be better off putting a tin can in your exchange, one in your house and tying some string between the two. it would be cheaper and more effective than Orange.
They are the worst company of any type that I have ever dealt with. Save yourself the heartache and join a decent provider.
Thanks for the heads up. I will definitely look up BE(and thank you Stevelondon for the links). I am very much a novice in this kind of thing, but guidance from hard earned experience from others is invaluable.
pdoherty - real sorry to hear your tale of woe. Good luck for the future.

Oh just to mention, in case Orange didnt tell you, the package they are offering you will have an 18 month contract. They wouldnt let me cancel when I was one day in. So tread very carefully.
The fact that sweeperdog is still here even after switching ISPs speaks volumes. Not only is switching to Orange a bad idea, but you'll be so enraged that they'll turn you into a militant anti-Orange activist.
I'm one more Orange 'customer service' phonecall away from turning into Michael Douglas in Falling Down.
i was conned by Orange.Iwa on normal package but was told i could upgrade to Orange max including livebox and phone rental for £24 BUT if i took a mobile contract out it would be £17 so i signed up my broadband then acquired phone and then registered and asked about my account being adjusted to £17 from £24 ,was then told i wasnt in an Orange area only b.t area and they could only take£1 off my monthly payment so after talking to half the staff at Orange i told them to stick there £1 up there ****.absolute joke firm .Oh and while registering my direct debit details there systems was down so they said they contact me about setting it up in next 2 weeks then got a text saying have your bank details ready when your ring ,if they think im ringing them after the amount of time i spent on the phone they be waiting a while
