o2 (now Sky) have just announced a new broadband deal that will probably have the other ISPs a little worried...
o2 (now Sky) Mobile Broadband Promotion - FREE HOME BROADBAND
From August 1st (today) for a limited time, o2 (now Sky) will provide FREE Home Broadband to any customer that purchases Mobile Broadband online.
NOTE - You MUST purchase the mobile broadband ONLINE - this is stipulated in their offer's T&Cs!
The 8meg o2 (now Sky) Home Broadband package for £7.50/month (price for o2 (now Sky) customers) will be offered for free to each person who takes out an o2 (now Sky) Mobile Broadband contract from August 1st (for a limited time).
Should you, the customer, choose a package with a monthly price higher than £7.50, i.e. the 16meg or 20meg o2 (now Sky) Home Broadband packages for £10 and £15 a month respectively, you will need to pay the difference. For example if you choose the 16meg package, this would be £2.50 a month for the life of the Home Broadband contract (12 months).
o2 (now Sky) Mobile Broadband provides fast internet access, a monthly allowance of 3GB of data, as well as unlimited access to 7,500 WiFi hotspots across the UK.
Hope this helps!
As mentioned above, we have literally just received details of this deal and so will not be able to answer any more questions than what we have posted for now!

What can i say? o2 (now Sky) just seem to get better & better.
Thanks for your help Admin but i really don't think i will use mobile broadband to warrant it but if i was going to pay £15 anyway maybe its worth it but then again i will be tied into an 18month contract, still its worth knowing though thanks.
Will probably request MAC code this weekend i will keep you all informed.
Spoke to o2 (now Sky) today (english speaking people!) & they were very helpful, i called to request about what speeds to expect gave them my number & i was told that my line can handle speeds of up to 22MB, brilliant as i want the 20mb package. She told me the first month of you service is under a trial period where they keep an eye on your speed & try there best to improve it if your not getting the sort of speeds that you should be. If they fail to improve anything then they will downgrade you to another package, good heh? Would Orange ever do that, i don't think so.
So ive just spoken to Orange & managed to request for my MAC code. They did what they could to talk me out of it "but sir o2 (now Sky) will offer you up to 20mb but you wont get that" Yes im aware of that & im sure the same applies to your 8mb package right? "errrrr", idiot!!
Anyway i told them that i had not made any decision to switch ISP just yet (yea right!) but thought i would request my MAC code in the mean time to speed up the process because the stupid woman starting asking me if i wanted to cancel my account, no i don't want to cancel my account i just want my MAC code!
Anyway i was told that i will have my MAC code within 2-5 working days via post but i told them i would like it by email instead as someone here said i should. When i told them my email address i heard a lack of typing wether they actually wrote anything down only time will tell. What's the betting my MAC code get lost in the internet "air waves".
Anyway im off to do a bit more research into o2 (now Sky) & will probably order within the next few hours. I will keep you all updated.
Update "o2 (now Sky) Home Broadband - Thanks for your order"
Yes it's official, I've ordered broadband with o2 (now Sky) & looking forward to moving on. My order is currently on delay because i need my MAC code so lets hope this gets sorted smoothly thats all i ask of Orange.
Quite funny really as in the last couple of months I've switched my mobile & now my broadband from Orange to o2 (now Sky) they need to sort it out & get there act together me thinks.
Thought I'd phone Orange today to hassle them for my MAC code. Spoke to them & have been told it's 3 to 5 WORKING days which is fair enough but was told it's coming by post instead of email. Just what i thought as i never heard the bloke type my email down when i told him, useless idiot. Doesn't really bother me though as post is fine just slightly annoying & proves they don't care. What's the chance of me getting it before Friday, place your bets.....
Anyway have had plenty of updates via email & text from o2 (now Sky) which is promising it's all down to Orange now will keep you updated.
Oh well ignore what i said yesterday i take it all back they sent me my MAC code this morning via email, well done Orange. I sent it straight off to o2 (now Sky) & have already had a reply back to tell me i should have all my router etc by the 11th & should be connected on the 13th its going very smoothly indeed.
I take it that my MAC code can still be wrong though? I know what Orange are like it just means i wont know this until the day of activation when o2 (now Sky) will use it, is that correct?
Well what can i say, a day after receiving a text/email from o2 (now Sky) saying my router etc will be with me by the 11th i have already got it. Had text from o2 (now Sky) last night asking if a delivery date of today was ok & if i would like to change it to another i could reply back. Left it as today as it was fine & got a text this morning to tell me to & i quote "Keep my eyes peeled" as my broadband pack would be delivered today, brilliant!
Well I've come home & there it is in a nice little box & ready to use with very simple instructions anyone could do it! Well done o2 (now Sky) you continue to impress me but i wont speak too soon & will wait until i actually get connected before i say anymore.
Anyway i thought I'd post my speed result from speedtest.net of what im getting at the moment & will post what i receive from o2 (now Sky) when im all up & running.
I'm sure you won't be disappointed with your speeds etc with o2 (now Sky)/Be, and theres no peak or off peak same speeds whatever time of day.
Thanks Steve, i can't wait now i just hope im not expecting to much. The way i got to see it though is even if its slightly better than Orange im paying almost half the price & have english customer support so im still a winner!
Hi all, thought i would update you all. Today as some of you may know was my activation day for o2 (now Sky) Broadband. Woke up for work this morning to notice my current Belkin router connected to Orange had a red led on the globe symbol meaning that no Internet connection could be made great i thought as this mean im probably all set top go with o2 (now Sky) broadband. However as much as i wanted to try & set it up I couldn't as i had to work (booo!). Anyhow i thought it was best to wait for the o2 (now Sky) text confirmation before going ahead anyway & rushing it was not a good idea.
So im at work & my phone goes off at about 9.20am you guessed it was o2 (now Sky)!
Quote:
"o2 (now Sky): Great news- Our records show that you are now connected to o2 (now Sky) Broadband. You may now plug in, run the CD and enjoy! Thanks o2 (now Sky)."
So i've now finished work come home & installed the new router in about 5mins I didn't either bother with the CD. Started up my laptop found the o2 (now Sky) wireless connection & put in the WEP key which they provide you with & that was it i was connected!
First thing i did was visit speedtest.net & below are my results:
As you can see a BIG improvement compared to Orange. I'm paying for the 20mb down 1.6up package but like someone said they test your line within the first month to obtain the best speed & if they cant get speeds which they think are respectable they will downgrade you so your not paying too much.
Overall im still really happy with what im getting so far & if theres any improvement it will be a bonus. Well done o2 (now Sky) you made it so easy for me & if anyone here is thinking of switching to o2 (now Sky) don't think about it just do it the whole process was made so easy by o2 (now Sky) & within just over a week of ordering im up & running. Enough blabbering now im off to hook up my xbox i will report back later & let you know how im getting on.
