Hi, I have a Livebox and am currently surfing the net with an ethernet cable. I want to get onto WiFi but am having difficulty - the laptop searches and finds the wireless network but when I click on it to connect a message comes up saying ' unable to connect to the selected network, the network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of avaialable netowrks and try to connect again'.
My livebox shows 2 sold lights, one on the @ and one on the wifi.
I think there is something wrong with the configuration. I typed in ipconfig in the run box and it said 'media disconnected' for the wireless network.
I have been into wireless connection properties and keyed in the WEP code, and changed the order of peferred networks, but nothing. I am at a total loss what to do next. If any of you knowledgeable people can help I'd be ever so grateful.
thanks

Thanks Simondaw for your reply. It was really helpful and I actually got to the box to enter my WEP key before connecting, however when I keyed it in it gave me the message:
'the network pasword needs to be 40 bits or 104 bits on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters'
Any more ideas what this can mean,
thanks in advance.

The key can be a real pig to copy accurately!
The easiest was to avoid mistakes (given that it is a long key - it's 26 hexadecimal characters in the case of the Livebox) is as follows. The key can be accessed from a computer that's connected via an Ethernet cable. Log into your Livebox (192.168.1.1, or use the shortcut icon if you used the CD to do the initial installation), select security > wireless connection. Copy the key (Ctrl+C) and paste it into a text file (use Notepad or similar, e.g.). Save the file onto some sort of removable memory (flash or whatever) and transfer it onto the laptop you're trying to connect. Copy and paste it into the box when setting up WEP.
