Please Help! I have followed these instructions, and it has worked in the past. But, I had a problem where I had to reset the livebox to factory settings. Now, upon trying to set it up for a wireless connection to my PS3 again, it keeps failing on the part where I perform the "Test Connection" - "Obtain IP Address: Failed" (The connection to the access point timed out). I have set up everything to the letter, both on the livebox configuration settings, and the PS3. Upon entering the WEP key, I have scrolled right and left all the other settings as default settings (IP Address: Automatic --> DHCP host name: Do Not Set --> DNS Setting: Automatic --> MTU: Automatic --> Proxy Server: Do Not Use --> UPnP: Enable) - I then test the connection, and it fails. I have already pressed and held in the "1" button on the Livebox itself, so that the right hand light flashes to allow pairing. The pairing time is set to unlimited and WEP security only. PLEASE could someone offer some further advice, this is really frustrating because I had wireless gaming with the PS3 & Livebox running a treat by following these instructions in the past.... is there something I am missing...? Incidently, the SSID is correct (Livebox-7030), and the signal strength is 100% when it finds the livebox initially... it just keeps timing out on the Test Connection and I therefore cannot obtain an IP Address!!!
Just an idea... As i don't own a PS3... But that seems to be a major issue with some...
Thanks for your reply - however, I have already tried setting the Livebox Firewall to Low, and it makes no difference. I even turned everything off, then back on and tried again, but still no joy. I am beginning to tear my hair out with this now, as I have definitely had it working before, but since the master reset it is just not happening. Is there anything else I can try?
Well i've done a bit of browsing on the internet around various Playstation forums.. Only thing of remote logic is this..:
Try disabling media server connection and/or run the internet connection test. If it does not pass, and it sounds like it will fail, note the hints it gives you.
It sounds to me like you might've missed a step in the tutorial to getting set up.. So try going over it all again.. Making sure you double check each step is right...

Thanks again - I had followed everything to the letter - but I have now got it working, apparently by changing the Wireless Connection Channel Number from 1 to 2 - I then put the Livebox into Pairing mode again, tried the test connection and hey presto, it seems to have worked
Very happy now, set the firewall back to medium and still seems OK.
Thx very much for looking into this for me again anyway

I have the exact same problem, however i have not set my livebox firewall to low, How do i do this?
My PS3 won't connect to the livebox, and I tried the following:
- Moving them closer together to get a higher signal percentage
- Setting the livebox security to low
- Changing the security key to WEP
- Changing the security key to WPA
- Pressing the 1 button to enable pairing before entering the key
- Entering the key multiple times to make sure there were no typos
- Forwarding ports (using both UDP and TCP)
- Setting the computer to use a static IP address
- Turning off firewalls on the computer settings
- Set maximum pairing time for the livebox to inifinite
- Changing the wireless channel number to 2
- Yelling and tearing my hair out
Sometimes it stops working after post-WPA key network configuration check and a message comes up saying to check the LAN security settings, other times it works fine until I test the connection - at that point, it always says that it's timed out.
What should I do?
BTW... is the WEP key the same as the WPA key, or is it different? If so, how can I find out what the WEP key is?
This is how to set up your Playstation 3 for online play, without setting your firewall security to 'low'.
First of all, go to http://configuration.adsl and log in. (Default username is admin and password is admin - consider changing it if you haven't.) Click 'Configuration', 'Advanced', 'Wireless'. Here, take note of the Livebox name: Like Orange - 0000 or WANADOO-0000 and change the security to 'WEP security only'. (This will be changed back once the livebox is paired). Also, changed the wireless pairing time to '--' (unlimited). Again, you can change with back once the Livebox is paired with the PS3. Click Submit.
Then, go to 'Security', 'Wireless Connection'. Note down your WEP secturity key. 26 characters long, eg: 0123456789ABCDEF1234567
Go to your PS3 Cross Media Bar (XMB), go to settings, network settings, Internet Connection Settings. Say yes when it says you will be disconnected (may not appear if connecting first time).
Select wireless.
Select scan.
A list of wireless networks should appear. Select the one with the SSID of your Livebox name (ORANGE-0000, etc.) and the security should be WEP. Signal strength should be at least 30% for a continuous connection. If not, move the Livebox closer to the PS3 or open a few doors.
Select this wireless network.
Check the SSID. and continue.
In WLAN Security Setting, select WEP.
Type in the 26 character WEP key. (Use the L2 button to shift to the numbers faster)
Continue and select 'Easy'.
Test connection should then work.
Also remembered to press button one on the back of the "livebox" this puts it in pairing mode so you can then connect to it

Go to Setting, Network Settings, Settings and Network Connections Status List. Look for the IP Address (should start with 192...) and write it down.
Go to Configuration, Advanced, Router and click the 'Add' button near the bottom of the page. You should be at a page titled 'Port Forwarding -NAT'
Under Service: Select the 'Manual Service' radio button and in the text box, type 'PS3'.
ensure the Protocol is 'UDP' not TCP in the drop down list and in the External port and internal port type in the number '4658'.
In the server IP address, type in the IP address you found on the PS3 Settings and Network Connections Status List and type it in.
Click submit.
Now you should be able to play Online games.
Now, go back to your Livebox and change the pairing time back to 10 minutes and change the security to WPA or WEP security. click submit.
Ok have been following these instructions and get to scan and it doesn't pick up my livebox. Just says The access point was not detected.
Before I had these instructions it had scanned and picked up several times but I get a error code saying it has failed to connect After all details where entered.
I have connected with the cable and works fine.
I am also not convinced I am pressing the 1 button correct was told to hold it down for 5 seconds to alert the livebox that a wireless connection was looking for ir. Do I need to turn the life box off and turn it back on? If so when do I hold the 1 button down? Or can I just pick the live box up and hold the 1 button?
I have highlighted the bit i have got to
I have followed all the instructions word for word and I am still having problems, my livebox doesnt have a button with 1 written on it, it only has two buttons one says wi fi and the other one says reboot. Also when I check the details on my ps3 it says IP address automatic despite the fact that I have typed in my IP address which starts with 192 and it still cant connect when I go to test connection. Can someone please help. I treid entering 192.169.1.1 to find my DNS number and the link is not working.
Just wanted to add my two penn'orth.
Had exactly the same issues with setting up the PS3 to connect to the Livebox (access point timed out). It was driving me insane, especially entering that damn WEP key over and over.
Following the tips to change the security settings to WEP only caused me to lose all my connections to the internet - laptop, pc, everything! I couldn't even get back into the Inventel config page. Even disabling firewalls (Windows and Livebox alternately) didn't help.
Rang Orange who were very helpful but clueless. They tried all sorts to re-establish the internet connection to the PC/laptop but couldn't resolve it. (I'm still waiting for their call-back, actually!!!)
Eventually, I dug out an ethernet cable and used the wired connection to access the Inventel page and re-set all the changes I had made. I changed the wireless port from 1 to 2 and I was able to re-establish the wireless connection to the PC, which was something.
Then (still wired) I had a mad idea to test the PS3 internet connection and finally it worked. No re-entering details or the blasted WEP key. Just straight in. I unplugged the ethernet to check that it wasn't piggy-backing off the PC, which it wasn't and then I was good to go. (2 and a half hours later, but hey.)
So, just a warning to other semi-noobs like me - if you change the Livebox settings you might have a bit of a naus if you haven't got an ethernet cable handy.
I don't know if it was the wired connection or changing the wireless port that got me there in the end, but I will remember next time that my Livebox *really* does not like being in WEP only mode.
Hope this is useful to someone because I have had so many good tips off this forum in the past and I'd like to give something back.
If anyone else out there has been having problems lately - and has tried everything else that people have suggested...
I turned off the firewall on my Livebox and also removed the WEP security. Then, pressed the pairing button and went through the usual PS3 set up on "easy". It worked fine and got the connection.
I then went back to the Livebox and reinstated the WEP and medium firewall securities. I checked on the PS3 and the connection was now gone. However, if you go through the set up again, this time inserting the WEP key on the "Custom" set up, you should find it will be okay.
This took me a few days to figure after going down many blind alleys! Hope it helps someone out there.
