As long as the PS3 has a web browser, which that thread says it does, then you don't need a PC.
Just browse to 192.168.1.1 and click the link,
enter "admin" as the username and password,
go into Services > Internet,
enter your Orange username and password and click validate,
the @ light should go solid and it come back saying connected.
I have Orange wireless broadband with a livebox and as with many other people I couldn't get internet access on my PS3. The first suggestion on this topic sounds like it would work but unfortunately my dad won't let me try it out. Can I connect my PS3 to our broadband connection through a telephone socket and if so what cable will I need (I bought an ethernet cable and promptly found that it would not fit into the socket on the back of the console)

The ethernet cable should work, are you sure you've got the right one? I got mine free with the console (60GB version).
Is it like this? [/url]

Sorry, I made a mistake.
I said that it wouldn't fit in the console but I actually meant that I couldn't find what to plug the other end into. My livebox is upstairs and my PS3 is downstairs so I can't connect those two together. Can I plug it into the phone socket and if so what sort of adapter etc. do I need.

In order to play you're PS3 you'll have to plug the ethernet cable into the livebox (you might need to buy a really long cable)or go wireless (the range on the PS3 for wireless isnt very good either by the way). If you follow the setup guide on here for wireless you shouldnt have any problems (tell your Dads its dead easy) and there's plenty of people on here to help you through it if you get stuck!
Thanks for the reply. Our house is very long so having a cable all the way form the livebox to the PS3 just isn't an option. I suppose I'll just have to try again to persuade my dad to let my try the method shown at the beginning of this topic. However I only get about 5% signal on my PS3. Can anybody suggest a good and cheap range extendor which will work with a Livebox? This is proving to be a real nuisance!

Yep you'll have to go via homeplugs as 5% signal strength isnt gonna be good enough sadly but you'll still have to persuade your Dad first!
Good luck. Keep us posted!
Thanks again
Homeplugs seem(s) too expensive for me to get. Would something like this work with the livebox? http://www. Amazon.co.uk/?tag=orangeprobcou-21&camp=6&creative=6786&linkCode=ur1"> Amazon.co.uk/Belkin...amp;sr=8-1
It seems more affordable and as we have a very old house I don't know whether all the electricity is connected. By the way, I've explained everything to my dad and he seems to be slightly more persuaded. Fingers crossed
Mike
Ps: Having just read some reviews I saw that one person said it did not work on vista. My PC is Home Premium but the one with the livebox attached is XP. Would that be OK?
Thanks again

Looks like it would work but read the reviews - it sounds VERY complicated to set up. If I were you I'd phisically move the PS3 and telly nearer to the livebox or run a eternet cable to your room I like this. Seems like there's no easy answer to this one! Good mate mate.
Is it true that if i go into my pc and start fiddling with the configuration it could mess up the laptop which is also connected wirelessly?
I was going to give the advice on this thread a go until i saw that, parents have just gone on holiday and my step dad took ages seting up the laptop so dont think hed be too pleased if he came home and found the laptop connectoion wasnt working and my playstation was !!!
basically my ps3 can see the SSID but when it goes to test the connection it says "failed timed out", I really have tried everything, its like banging your head against a wall !
I have got a wannaddoo router wireless internet and a ps3 so it should be straightforward but it never is thanks in advance
I have finally been allowed to change the livebox security settings unfortunately whatever I try seems to give me the same Failed message when I try and test the connection. I have tried WEP, WPA and no security at all and still no results. I am going to seriously recommend to my dad that we change to some better ISP. Any final suggestions?
