I recently upgraded my 1mb connection to a 2mb connection and bought myself a BELKIN WIRELESS G+ MIMO F5D9630 modem router to set up a wireless connection to my laptop which runs VISTA PREMIUM.
Having connected the modem router the correct way to the phone socket via a filter, the power light, wireless signal light and the etherent connection light to the laptop all come on. The other two lights on the router are the ADSL and the INTERNET lights.
Vista makes a connection to the router fine, and detects a "local connection only"
The ADSL light on the router blinks (to say it is looking for a broadband signal) then goes solid to say it has found the 2mb Orange connection. Then next the INTERNET light should come on green but instead it comes up red and the both the ADSL and INTERNET lights disappear. This cycle continuely repeats.
I have spoken to BELKIN tech support, who said to phone BT and "test the line". I have tested the line with BT who say everything is fine their end and to try Orange. I phoned Orange and they confirm their is a 2mb connection set up to my address and the account is fine. They recommended unplugging all things sharing the phone line, which I did. They also went through all settings as they should be on the router's IP page. Including username and password. The user name ends in @fs.
Any help or ideas would be greatfully accepted. I cannot understand how in this day and age you cannot plug a modem/router in and it just start working?
I've had something very similar for the last week since Orange said the 2MB upgrade was "completed"
Followed the instructions on this site for MTU changes which Orange advised - but missed the fact that they must be changed on the router AND Windows Vista AND others PCs. Should be 1492 - see the guides on the menu opposite. Now works much better although one or two sites get stuck.
I plugged in my old Speedtouch to prove my line was OK - you need to do this first before trying the router.
MTU will not help a non-sync'd modem/router to sync.
First check your filters, try from the test socket if you can. Increases in speed can sometimes show up problems that aren't enough to effect the previous lower speed connections.
