Hi, just switched over to Orange BB 8mb home max, seemed to go to be true 15 quid including BT line as current moby customer........
Current set up.
Belkin N1 modem router
n draft intel card in the lappy
PS3, Nas drive, Print server etc all connected via ethernet. and Apple TV over wifi.
All was good, live in 3 story house and stream HD so upgraded speed and signal strent hence N draft set up.
Ok Live box turns up, and have set it up, got it working on the internet, wires and then wireless, so i can now surf etc. (speed not that great though... will get back to that another time)
Problem
Trying to scrap using the Livebox and get my Belkin working!!!
Have tried setting it up witht he username/id etc but will not connect.
PPPoA, 0/38, MTU set same as livebox........
DNS, tried as auto by ISP or the ones from Orange web site.
Mac , cloned the one from the lappy after connecting to Livebox, then tried again with the same MAC as Livebox (got from sticker on base).
HELP ME!!!!
Any ideas guys?? Next thing I`m doing is a complete reset of the belkin and try it all from scratch, after noting down my port forwarding etc from my PS3 games.
Is there something I have just over looked? I can connect to my home N!N1 network obviously, and also disconnect from the Internet on the livebox, throu the config page.
Any help would be great, and I know i am forfitting web calls, but i use my mobile all the time so not bothered.
What does the belkin's status show for the broadband connection when you put in all the details? Nothing sounds out of place from what you've said so far, although there's no need to clone the MAC of anything, the belkins normal one will do fine as Orange don't use them at all.
Okies first thing to do is check your internet connection with livebox, then if that is working it is a problem with belkin, obviously Orange tech will not help as it is not thier product so try resetting the belkin back to its orignal factory settings, if that fails then they router may have developed a fault.
If possible take the router round to a friends house who has a DSL connection, if it works there (with thier username and pw) then the problem may lie elsewhere, maybe in the way you have it setup.
I would also advise against the cloning of the MAC address there is no need for it what so ever, if you have your second line service activating (which uses a MAC number it may cause a conflict or confuse it with your router (this is a theory by the way not actual Orange guidelines))
I tend to stear clear of belkin, dont really like it, have set many up but have found to be the most problematic out of Netgear, D-Link, Linksys and others. Tend to advise customers the same thing.
The MAC cloning won't effect the second line, the livebox pulls the details rather than them being pushed to the device with the registered MAC. Even if it was pushed out the system would eventually give up and the router would just ignore the data.
Hi, many thanks for your help guys, got it working over the weekend.
I did the complete reboot/reset on the belkin and started frsh inputting in all the setting and stuff Orange, and then my ports for the PS3 etc.... and it worked.
Should have tried that first really, being a bit lazy i think Must have been some residual stuff still in the belkin causing an issue.
Not getting the greatest speed acutall, max i can get on "my line" is supposed to be abt 6.5Mb due to my exchange.
Running speed tests and downloading large files from trusted sites such as Nvidia i`m getting abt 2.8mb only.
I then installed a download manager, and bingo 5mb and this was on saturday night, still disapointing that general surfing is only coming it slightly quicker than the 2mb i was getting with old ISP.
do about 3 tests a day (mornin, afternoon and evening times) for about 3-4 days so there is sufficient enough results. Ring tech and ask them to put a line test through for you for slow speeds, if there is a problem they will get it sorted.
Deevon, thanks i`ll give it a go and report what i get using the link you suggested, will be good to compare using same speed test site.
no probs but i have never actually used that website as it requires you to enter a BT Telephone number and im on Virgin.
Basically it sends the speed test result to Orange, so you do not have to phone up and say "at this time im getting this speed" Do a few tests at different times of day and on different days, if you ring Orange after you do the tests and the tests are not enough then the line test will come back as nothing is wrong. More the merrier really.
If the system can see that the speed is fluctuating quite a bit then some action may get taken to get this resolved.
yes but when a line test is done Orange can get access to the results (not actually shown to an agent on screen but the faults system has them in background stored), if there are sufficient results and speeds are slower than they should be then it will most likely say "possible fault found" if not then it will say "more tests are needed"
