I have a friend who has Orange Internet and Livebox and wants to switch to another ISP and wondered if it was possible to still use the livebox for another service so that they don't have to buy a new WIFI router.
Would this be possible or is the Livebox somehow locked to Orange
livebox won't work on another isp as it has a chip inside it so it will only work on Orange and also if you don't return the livebox when u transfer and close the account Orange will charge you £100 for non-return of equipment

Spike1206 - Thanks very much for that, it confirms what I thought but it's nice to get it confirmed. I can advise them to buy a new wireless router, there are quite a few very reasonably priced ones out there.
It's not the hardware that makes the box locked to Orange, it's the software. Which has been hacked to allow it to work on other ISP's but to be honest it looks like a lot of hastle when Orange will want it back anyway.
The software only tries to connect if you use an Orange formatted username, there's an unlock code that, back when liveboxes were sold outright, is supposed to be available to allow it to be used on any network. I've never heard of anyone getting one and only just once heard of someone even asking about it.

It's just not worth the hassle especially as the wireless routers are so cheap now.
