Was getting 7500 average since about the second week (before that it was about a 5000 attainable and what I was getting) of having Orange and not a problem, then on Oct 10th the net went down with that PPP thing and the techs were useless liars. Then it got fixed Three weeks later after suing threats, it's been stuck at 2272 (1900 constantly on tests) with a "attainable" of 7800 ever since, totally ruined Xbox Live for me.
All the BB sites like BT, Virgin etc, thier pre-test estimate whatever things inc. Orange say I should be able to get 6-8meg.
Previously my speed was around 2m (presumably capped) despite the first couple of weeks of contract I got 5m ish. Then I kept complaining to Orange.
Then a month ago things got worse when they migrated me to LLU and the speed has dropped to 1m (as per above test).
Now Orange keeps telling me that engineer found fault on my line and have been working on it for 2nd week now.
I'm on the fence to leave them (contract has expired) just because my plan is very good (value) - apart from speed apparently. But on the flip side I also want a higher speed with this same old plan!! Just 4m could make me smile already.
I also spoke to o2 (now Sky) just to get the estimate of the highest speed I could get from them. They said the speed could go up as high as 11m with them. Not sure though if that was reliable or not.

That would be about right check this graph and put your details in Here and you will get another estimate of what you will get on ADSL2+.

IF YOU ARE READING THIS AND ARE THINKING OF CHANGING TO Orange THEN BEWARE, UP TO 8MB REALLY MEANS ABOUT 2 MAX IF YOU'RE LUCKY.
And for those who think that I must be on the 2MB package .. I'm not
You won't get anyware with tech support either. Based in Mumbai and trained just to log calls. You will hve to pay for the call as well and STILL won't get anywhere.
Oh why ... oh why ... oh why did I think I could save money and change to Orange. I've been a happy phone customer for years.

My Orange connection is very stable and I have been with them for years thorugh Freeserve and Wanadoo. I have had very few reliability problems but I am only getting around 1mbps.
I contacted Orange tech support who confirmed that the max my line can achieve is what I am now getting. I asked how to get the line speed increased and they told me to talk to BT. Spoke to BT who said that it was a matter for BT Wholsesale and they would only speak to ISPs - I explained that I pay BT a line rental and I wanted to know as their customer what was being done to upgrade the infrastructurwe on my exchange - they refused to speak and when I asked for names and referecne numbers the BT India call centre just hung up on me after they said if I was a BT Broadband customer they could help - this is an anticompetitive stance which needs to be dealt with.
The whole situation is ludicrous - no-one takes responsibility - my exchange is 01276 - not sure of next steps. Am I better off with any other ISPs?? Sky?

I have added a few more details which I believe can also help to determine speeds with a little more accuracy. Just an ides... perhaps creating a template for everyone to use in order to enter all the data would be the best solution.
I'm on the Paddington exchange.
Location: 1.5Km from the exchange.
I use a Thomson Speedtouch ST330 USB ADSL modem.
Thomson ST 330
Set up performed from Orange's CD (the one included in modem's box).
Once installed, there should be a new system tray icon appear. Right click on the icon and choose Advanced then Write log file to disk. It will ask you where to save the file - choose your desktop for convenience.
Once the window disappears, double click on the file called drst.xml on your desktop to view your line stats.

Thanks Keith,
I have now updated the missing data on my post.
Only problem is that when running the diagnostics tool, at the fourth test (internet) it says that "a problem is detected to the internet". Have followed the troubleshooting steps but still getting the same error message. Do you know why?
When it was Freeserve, no problems, when it was wannado, brilliant, but Orange SUCK!
I urged my colleagues not to continue with them, but while I was out, some slick salesman phoned up, sold them a livebox and another 18month contract.
With us already having a crippled BB speed between 6pm - 12am I was stunned that they bothered, with a shed load of hassle I managed to configure the livebox to act purely as a Modem and Kept my wonderful D-Link locked down with a 64 Hex Key WPA + Mac FIltering.
But still naff Speed, so I kicked off at them down the phone and they told me "You can have full speed, but go over the limit again and it will forever be crippled!"
The cheeky a-holes, fact is they send out letters warning of the transgressions 3 months after they happen, warning if it continues, they will choke the speed.
So by the time you read the letter, its been choked for well over a month!
So, this was last week... now Sunday, we're down to 62kbps... If i could find the sales rep for Orange who sold us this crud i'd happily talk him into early retirement, if he has a decent bone in his body that is. Being a salesman, I find that highly doubtful.
My Speedtest result is below.
I apologise for my childish sounding attitude but I'm well pee'd off. I need my connection for running my business successfully, without it, i'm screwed. Anyways, good luck to everyone with sorting their probs out.
I must win for lowest connection speed though!
