I have written to Mike Newnham on several occassions regarding my slow download & upload speeds. & I have received some form of response as he has had a non technical person contact me on two occasions.
Without going into too much detail, as a result of this, I have had a BT engineer visit me & he found that my download speed on the line as it entered my house was 7.61, whilst the speed at my computer (about 10 metres away) was 1.2. He even checked at the local telephone exchange something called a RAS Profile.
I have contacted Orange again & they don,t seem to be able to explain this. In fact when I suggested that they contacted BT to ask them, they refused as they said it it was not something they would normally do (this was another non-technical person.)
Has anybody got a possible explanation for this discrepancy ?
By the way, in my case, Orange still have a 100% record for not ringing back when they say they will do.
It goes without saying that I have written to Mr. Newnham again
When the BT engineer was at the exchange & phoned me to tell me that it was O.K. that end, the line started squarking & we were cut off.
He did not phone back & I had no way of phoning him. That is why I wanted Orange to contact BT to see if they could give an explanation.
What are you using to connect, livebox, speedtouch or something else?
Is it connected to the main socket?
If not how is it getting from the main socket the 10m to the PC, extension socket, wireless, etc?
Tried the test socket?
What line stats is it showing?
