I've been with the deadly "PPP server down" for the last Three weeks. Went through the painful Indian customer service, factory reset, 5 days waiting, etc. Because I had a low noise margin and because my neighbour has been messing with a rose bush close to my phone line, I suspected a faulty line and was waiting for Orange to narrow down the problem to it.
Then I read a post somewhere on orangeproblem.co.uk telling about using an other modem to "reset" the connection. It worked for me (oh joy) with my old Speedtouch I brought back from the Netherlands.
A factory reset on the Speedtouch (to clear all the dutch settings) and a PPPoE connection later and I had a working LiveBox at last.
Note for those interested:
Using a speedtouch (or other modem) you will have to respect the same settings as the LiveBox.
VPI/VCI is a other way to talk about the VP and VC values of your livebox. So the SpeedTouch will need a VPI/VCI value of 0.38
If you try a connection via PPPoE, check the "Auto config" box and only fill the username and password field: the rest is useless. Worked for me.
After having connected through PPPoE, the network seems to keep this new authentication protocol for a while and subsequent PPPoA connections will fail with an "Authentication failure" error message. Just unplug the DSL line and wait for it to be reset (a few minutes worked for me).
After having successfully connected with the SpeedTouch, switch back to the LiveBox and watch it connect properly, with tears in your eyes.
Thanks to the crowd wisdom!
I am now getting ready to, randomly and without any justification, insult some Orange employees, just for the fun of it and for my mental health. I know it's bad, but they deserve it.
