D Link Tells me that the signal is fine yet when I try to go on the internet I still have no success. If my memory serves me right it talks about proxy settings.
You don't need a proxy set for Orange so you need to check and remove one if you have it set. It's a pretty simple and quick process.
Go into the control panel and open internet options,
Go to the connections tab and click the LAN Settings button,
If the "use proxy server..." option is ticked then untick it, ok everything and check the connection.
Once again thank you. I went into the Lan setting and noticed that I had "automatically detect settings" ticked but no proxy settings box ticked, once I had unticked the Automatic settings the mention of detecting proxy settings disappeared.
However I still can't gain any internet access. Once again, I have a signal and I am told that the Wi-Fi is picking up Livebox.
I was advised by a friend to change the IP address in the network settings of ME from automatically detect IP address to specify an IP address. The specific IP address has to be within the range of the Livebox and then use this Specific IP address in the Gateway field but again I have absolutely no joy, I am getting close to the point where I becoming rather scunnered with it all.
My mood hasn't improved as I bought an Orange Mobile for my daughters Christmas after checking Orange coverage here, the coverage is shown as High Quality but unfortunately we can't get a signal.
Should have stuck with what I knew, Tesco Mobile and Pipex for an ISP, ach well such is life !!
Well the automatically detect settings option doesn't often make any difference. Also manual IP settings don't usually work when the automatic ones don't.
Out of interest doe the wireless connection give or do you know what windows said for any of the details of the IP, Gateway, etc?
I would have to look again but I think I have just given up in favour of buying Windows XP much against my better judgement.
Anyway a wee update on my second line with Livebox. My lines transferred over from Talk Talk on the 13th December but they were unable to get the second line up and running. I have now rang 4 times in an attempt to chase them up.
I rang this afternoon and was once again told that it was in hand. I stated that Orange were unable to meet their contractual obligation to me and I wanted a MAC code, if they could not supply me with the second line by the 28th of this month then I would leave for another provider. I was told that they have met their contracual obligation to me as I was getting broadband and the phone was merely an add on.
Anyway, after a frank discussion with the gentleman I was offered another free month (no £24) and no call costs attributal by me to their help line. I would still continue to pay for all other calls.
So Orange have until the 28th February to get my second line up and running. Why do things have to be so complicated
I await my activation E mail like a wee laddie waiting for the last sweetie in the poke !!
Elhana I am once again grateful that you took the time to reply to my previous posting.
