We have experienced very poor speeds recently, after moving house. BT Speedtester results:
IP profile for your line is - 1250 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 1696 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1166 kbps
Originally BT estimated via their line checker that we should receive speeds around 3.5MBps, so 1.2 is rather low.
I'm not sure if you'll be able to improve the connection much. It's a long line as the livebox is reporting the highest attenuation it can.
It's running the best it can from those stats. You may want to check your sockets, wiring, etc. Easiest way to check is connect the livebox to the test socket and check what the livebox shows the stats to be then. That should give an indication if fiddling with your wiring could help and push the connection up a little.
Those stats show the sync speed went up over 1/2 a meg just by removing your wiring from the loop (test socket).
I'd follow what nhyder says, that could help fix the problem.
If you can keep the downstream rate or sync speed over 2272 stabily then you should be able to get a 2 meg connection. The speed you can download at won't change straight away. It takes the system upto 3 days to beleive it's stable or not before it increases the IP profile for the line. You can check both the sync speed and IP profile set for the line through the BT speedtest site.
The IP profile was raised to 2000k overnight, and the results from the BT speedtester are as follows:
IP profile for your line is - 2000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 2432 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1891 kbps
...so it was definitely worthwhile doing it! If I can make the line sync to at least 2848kbps, then I could jump another rung on the IP profile ranges to increase the speed further! Any ideas?!!!
As has been pointed out you are on a long line so that might be as good as it gets.
What you could do is remove all telephone equipment and filters and plug just the router in with no filter. The broadband itself does not need the filter.
Hey. New member to this site but have visited many times.
I've been with Orange, God knows why, for about 2 years now. Throughout this time I've had problems but they've always been resolved. For the past year or so I've been on around about a 3mb connection. There was a moment for a couple of months where the line slowly became slower and slower each week, but that fixed itself. Now however, things are down to a crawl.
For about a week now my download speed is 40kb tops. Upload speed hasn't changed. I'm no wizz when it comes to this stuff, so if anyone can help me along with these stats that'd be great. I had a look at the Livebox stats and it said that attainable download rate was just 512kb, downstream was 400 upstream 448. I unplugged and reconnected the livebox and now have these figures:
Thanks for reply guys, but the problem seems to have sorted it's self out, for the time being anyway. I still get an occasional temporary disconnection, but that's better than having super slow download speeds. Thanks.
