Here i am with the textbook PPP server down.
However, if i connect my old Freeserve alcatel modem (the good ole' days) and dial i first get the message of 'the PPP protocol was terminated' and the second time it connects. Every time without fail. After doing so if i then try and reconnect my livebox i have no issues, until about 10 mins later with 'PPP server down'.
I was wondering if the proof that using the dial up almost seems to reset the connection and then allow it to work, would help anyone figure out a permanent fix (pssh)
That's not really dialup, the USB modems are treated like dialup modems purely within Windows and means settings are stored there and not in the modem, meaning they're simpler and cheaper to produce.
It's a known "fix" to connect another modem/router before going back to the livebox, however being able to get it going for 10 minutes is hardly what I'd call a fix.
It's generally agreed there's little that normal people can do as it's something to do with the exchange/livebox thats the cause of the problem.

I previously had the PPP server down problem as well. And that when my speed was as high as 5m.
Therefore, the Orange engineer then simply jumped to the conclusion that the speed of 5m was too high which caused the constant line drop and PPP server down. And they decided to capp my speed at 2m - not sure though if it was just their excuse to capp my speed or the fact!
After 8months downtime - I rang Virgin to swap to them and canx my DD to Orange. 2 days later the ornage broadband is working. Virgin are out on Friday and once and for all I dont ever need speak to Ornage again - STAY WELL CLEAR OF Orange!!!!
