Just had a wonderful wheeze from Orange come my way. I've always had a rock solid 8mb connection (since some early days teething troubles with ip profiles), and I know that makes me very fortunate, but a couple of weeks ago I was informed of an upgrade which would 'possibly' improve my line speed. I figured this translated to being the latest LLU victim, and sure enough about a week after the supposed 'downtime' was meant to have occured, my line went squiffy and when it came back I had a 7mb throttle down and my up speed had halved.
I got a nice email from Orange telling me the 'upgrade' was completed and I had gone from 8mb to 7mb. So far, so Orange...
What has really cheesed me is that on visiting the Orange members centre I am proudly informed that I am on a 7mb connection, and COULD BE receiving 8mb - if I sign up to another 12 month contract. All the more impressive when you consider that it is 12 months and four days since I last had a speed upgrade which locked me in for 12 months.
To summarize, Orange have buggered my line up a bit just after I'm out of minimum contract, and offered to restore it if I enter another 12 month minimum contract. charming.
correction to my first post - the minimum contract term is now of course a whopping 18 months. If I'm gonna be stuck with that, I might as well go to AOL and get my free PS3 or laptop
