Hi,just joined so please bear with me!I have been on Orange broadband about 2 years now origanally had 1 meg,offered upgrade to 3 meg earlier this year(extra 12 month contract)however we have always expierienced poor speed and losing connection.Having done a few test myself as recommended in this forum the results are as follows.BT ASDL check due to lenght of phone line from exchange very unlikely a broadband connection is possible!However speed of 512 may be possible.Did a speed test was 491 down,374 up,below is information from my livebox. Type : Interleave

I hope someone can make sense of the above,phoned Orange tech many,many times totally fed up with them,however one (english)guy told me no matter who i went with i would still have the same problem as my line will only support 512.Sorry such a long post.

Thank you for your quick response.I have tried to get on the speedtest,but it wont let me on,ask for my phone number(entered it)then asks for my normal login,presume this is my e-mail address?as said before earlier speedtest was 491 download,374 upload.

Thanks for your help and advice so far,i have tried about 6 times (logged on now )starts the test then.................nothing!!!!!cannot understand it,left it running 30-40 mins nothing,me and computers dont get on dont know what to do next? any more help,going to the pub now to watch footy (burnley)will check later ,sorry for the long drawn out saga.

p.s test says running dont download anything etc. which i havent.
Hmm try checking if your java is ok. ( www.java.com )
We need the result of that test, specifically the IP Profile as it's likely that is limiting the connection as you should be able to get 2.5 meg with that connection, providing it's stable. Stability could be on reason the profile is low, the margin at 12.6 could indicate this as it's been targetted up two levels from default, usually to try and improve stability.
Hi all again,checked java is installed correct with latest update still wont run the broadband test all it says is it is using 500k to do the test but wont run it!!!are there any other test you could get results from?Sorry to be such a pain in the butt!
Just done a BT line check,apparently i have a fault on my line!,will be repaired by Tuesday,will update any progress.Cheers for your help.

Thank you to everyone who posted a reply,B.T.finally managed to repair my line yesterday 4th visit!was a underground fault outside my house.I have now been connected 19 hours without losing connection(long may it continue).Still unable to run B.T. SPEEDTESTER but my livebox figures are now:-
Attainable download rate=4448 kbps
Downstream=3904
Upstream=448.
Dont know if this is good but im very happy with it and not losing connection.
