I have had Orange Broadband for a year and have always received 2 mb. In the last few days it has suddenly dropped to 1.1 mb. Contacted Orange and told to do a speed test which I am doing today. Can you tell me what the problem is likely to be?

Best to post your line/router stats and if you're not on LLU the results of this speedtest : www.speedtester.BT.com . If you are LLU'd post result from www.speedtest.net
Under 288 upload speed is no guarantee of being on an LLU connection. A fixed IPStream connection (Pre-max) would looke identical in pure connection stats.
Try and run the BT speedtest, if it always gives and error then you are likely on an LLU connection, try it at different times to be sure as it's often busy. If it goes through and gives a result then those details will provide a lot more to go on and proves it's not LLU.
It is an LLU line. I rang BT and they confirmed it is LLU. I have told them to change it back to a personal line, not LLU. Orange say there is a fault on the line and that is why the broadband has dropped from 2 megs to 1.1 megs in the last few days. They have assured me it will be back to 2 megs this morning. I'm still waiting.

The same has happened to my line. I had a speed in excess of 2meg last week until I went to LLU. Now it is always around the 985kbps mark, with an upload speed of 244kbps.
I was also told by Orange that there is a fault on the line and they will contact me within 48 hours (yea right!!), if not, call them back.
Somehow I don't think they'll do anything about this, so it looks like I'll be asking for my MAC code.
Just an update. Last message from Orange said 'as per our records there is a fault found on your line and our engineers are working upon it. Hence we request you to wait' I'm still waiting and I'm still on 1.1 meg instead of the 2.2 meg that I always had. I feel the only solution for me will be to change ISP which I will do once I have researched who is the best ISP to move over to. I am looking at BT broadband but they also seem to have poor communication skills!
I also have been with Freeserve / Orange for years, upgraded to 2m broadband with no problems, until January this year when I receive an email saying they are "upgrading" at my exchange (unbundling I presume??). Since then my connection has dropped to 1.1mbps, Orange says my line is capable of 3mb but nothing I do increases the connection speed Windows reports, i.e. 1.1mbps. Speed test results confirm this. Why would the speed suddenly drop - and isn't this a bit of a coincidence that this has happened immediately following the "upgrade"? Is it a way of providing additional capacity to other users at my exchange, at my expense?
Hello
I also got the 'upgrading' at my exchange Email from Orange and shortly after that I dropped to 1.1 meg from 2.0 meg. Its still at 1.1 despite numerous phone calls, speed tests etc. It looks like Orange capped the line at 1.1 meg since they got access to the phone lines with unbundling. The best thing to do is wait until your contract expires and go to a another ISP. I've just got my MAC code and will be off to o2 (now Sky) soon. First impressions are good with o2 (now Sky), they answer questions quickly and the current broadband offer includes a 100 day money back guarantee if you sign before the end of March. I was a freeserve/wanadoo customer for years and I didn't want to move, but Orange have left me with no choice. You really cannot deal with them and they are not interested in their customers.
Helen.
