But what happens when you plug into the main BT socket with your phone line plugged as well (you can't keep plugged permanently into the test socket)
Hi nhyder,
Just finished reconnecting the main box and for a change it took around 30 secs for the livebox to get a solid @ light!!
Here are the stats
Speed Test Results
Date 21/11/07 19:34:41
Speed Down 128.91 Kbps ( 0.1 Mbps )
Speed Up 375.35 Kbps ( 0.4 Mbps )
Port 8095

ADSL Top Refresh ADSL firmware version : A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Interleave
Noise margin (dB) : 10.7
Attenuation (dB) : 6.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 10048
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Noise margin is much better at 12.6 then the 33 you had previously.
Well not exactly, technically high noise margin is better but it has improved since the previous results, it's just hidden by the high speed increase as the margin has been traded for sync speed.

Really as long as it's now stable thats unimportant, the attainable is well over 8 meg so there's plenty of room for any normal minor signal fluctuations.
As for the speed, that's the IP Profile limiting the connection now. As long as it stays stable it should go up in the next 3 days, most likely to the full 7.15 meg.
How do i know if the connection is stable? would Interleave show a lack of stability? and if its not too much trouble can you explain what the difference between interleave and fast ?? i am not so good with the techie stuff

Well I've plugged my livebox in and its worked...so far...for 12 hours.
These are my test results:
ADSL firmware version : A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 8.4
Attenuation (dB) : 39.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 7904
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Downstream Upstream
Rate (kbps) 7168 288
I'm afraid I just don't understand them and what the values should be! Can anyone help? When the livebox goes...and I'm sure it will...what do I say to CS? Is it the livebox or the line????
well congrats tengu10 on what looks like a good connection!!!
If i was you i would run a few speed tests once or twice a day and record the results just in case.
There's just 2 things to look at for connection stability.
1. The longer the connection stays connected at a time. On the livebox Services > Internet page it will show the sync time. Longer is better.
2. If your connection does drop then it's useful to see what sync (downstream rate on System Information) you get on the reconnection. If this stays roughly the same then thats good, more it goes up or down the less stable it is.
The odd reconnection isn't too much of a problem once or twice a day at most really.
Well all the line stats and connection stuff is pretty generic and applies to practically all routers. Just I know the livebox well enough I know where to look for stuff and what to expect.

Good so far. It's looks pretty stable at 8 meg and hopefully you won't get any, or just the odd rare reconnection. Just a matter of waiting for the IP Profile to change now.
Dave
I see you've registered on the sister site talktalkproblems.co.uk. I'm glad it went well for you and just hope you don't end up having problems there too!
Been connected now for around 4 days 13 hours and getting these test results!!
