I have been told to install AOL and their modem, put in my Orange details, once connected plug livebox in - I'm going to try this when I get home
Who told you this? It could well work using another modem seems to sort the problem, but not for everyone.
Keith
Just some1 I work with - he has had ppp server down twice before, both time he used his old AOL modem and cd - then swapped back to livebox and said worked ASAP.
After 4 months of on and off downtime - Orange have now offered to cancel my broadband - what a wast eof time. I am now taking this up with trading standards, ofcom , cisas, ispa, icstis and my local MP.
After saying they are canx my broadband - they have now sent me a new livebox - and of course it don't work - they dont know their arse from their elbow Orange. signing up to Virgin!
Well everyone on Friday I became another statistic of the PPP server down problem.
There I was uploading game files to our game server using an FTP server that I've used for ages and bang live box goes off on one!
Tried the reset solution but just ended up with a flashing PPP light and the message PPP server down!
On Saturday I contacted Orange and after an hour and half of the Indian girl on the other end not listening to anything I said and insisting I reset the box several times, I had, had enough and hung up with her telling me they would do a line check in the next 48hrs hours. (I've been here before and they always say there is no fault)!!
Not only that but is it only me that gets the one you can neither hear or understand!
Realising I wasn't going to get any help from Orange whatsoever I became abit desperate and started trawling the internet to see if anyone else had this problem.
Wow I couldn't believe it there was hundreds and hundreds of them!
Any way I found this site and read all the threads on the subject and tried the trick of un-plugging the livebox and plugging in my old Thomson modem.
Yes it worked, then I was able to replace the modem with the live box which then worked fine!
I'd just like to say thankyou to all the people who took the time to post here on the subject.
It's a great idea for a site and I reckon the membership will grow as I don't see Orange being able to improve!
I have been with Orange since they were Freeserve and have owned everything from a 33kb/sec modem to 56kb/sec (no problems other than slow of course)
Then I upgraded to a fixed 512 kb/sec line again never having a problem.
After that I was put on a 1meg fixed rate line and again I had no problems.
Then the trouble started I signed up for 2 meg as it became available, then 4 meg then ADSL Max 8 meg.
Every time they "upgrade " my line I have several weeks of problems with disconnections, followed by irrate phone calls.
Every few weeks I encounter some problem or another and every time I ring them I have to go through the same crap.
None of the call center people are trained or know anything about computers.
The girl I spoke to this time informed me I had caused the problem myself by downloading files that had corrupted my computer and I should re-install Windows.
This was after an hour and half telling her I had been uploading not downloading!
Every time you make a change to your account they make you sign a further contract, that can't be fair or right.
I reckon once my latest contract is up I'll be moving on.
Well just to update you all, 48hrs came and went on Monday, but no phone call from Orange to give me the results of the line test....no suprise there then.
Live box is still up and running since carrying out the procedure in my previous post..............SO FAR..........I'll keep you all informed.
Just thought i'd say that with being without Orange broadband for over 14 days, and with s**t* customer service from Orange i tried a differnet adsl router and it worked fine, then plugged the Orange livebox in and that worked. so if you're experiencing problems give it a go.
orange customer service - its as if they sit on the phone and say "computer says no". terrible.
Yep a woman (English) called me back on Friday and asked if my internet was working!!!!!!
I told her yes and explained how I had plugged my old modem in to sort the problem before switching back to the live box........She just laughed and hung up?
Weird.
Thank you all for your help . Was on the phone to our indian friends
after livebox was giving ppp server down , he said he would do a line check,
so found my speedtouch box thing and connected with that for now.
Will try livebox again tomorrow as suggested above and hope it works for me
I've had the dreaded 'ppp server down' error on my livebox, now for 4 days. Everytime (every 24hrs) I phone customer support (joke) I get the same routine, unplug everything and start again. It's still not working. So enough is enough. I'm moving to another server. Interestingly, when I phoned to get my MAC code and was asked why I was moving, on being told my reason, the person was willing to cut my rental down to £9.99 a month. It'll take more than that, I wouldn't even stay with them if it was free. But they must be desperate to keep customers. The service is rubbish as is their call centre. Good riddance to Orange.
Guys, Stay away from Orange. Not only am I 7 weeks into 'PPP Server down' pain and torment, they will not send me my MAC code. I keep ringing but have been waiting 2 weeks now.
Also, word of warning, Orange have fobbed me off by sending me equipment in the post, new Livebox, speed touch modem. None of it helped fix my problem and now they are saying I was only renting the equipment and need to send it back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Idiots the lot of them! Absolutely diabolical customer service, I will never ever grace Orange with a penny of my cash again.
