Just wondered if I am a unique case or not - no one seems to be able to sort it out and fed up with hearing the same old stories from India etc. Meant to be getting MAC code by email (spoke to Peter Sykes in escalation dept). They have promised me 6 free months when it goes back on but don't think I have the patience to wait anymore Tey're now blaming the BT exchange. Is it worth me speaking to BT or is this just another excuse of theirs. Costing me a fortune on BT dial up (which they've said they'll reimburse along with all the 0870 calls to them) - idiots! I've totally lost my faith in Orange after having been with them for years. Have been on 512 speed even though should be on at least 3.5.
Very cheesed off!
I've been without (very, pretty much, i can get online but JUST BARELY and can't do anything with it) a connection since he 1st. According to the service status there are llu problems.. can someone please tell me what llu means?!

LLU = Local Loop Unbundling which means you're supplied via Orange system equipment rather than BT's own at your local exchange. Orange seem to have difficulty getting that equipment to link your modem/router to their servers.....that's the problem described simplistically.

Last year, around July time, I had 2 weeks disconnection under Orange.
After ringing every day and getting lies and ecuses, including about the MAC code, I cancelled then waitied for 10 days for the line to clear.
After this I joined Idnet and have never once lost my connectio0n in over a year.
Orange do nothing more than lie - leaving ASAP is the only way to get a decent connection back
I requested a MAC code yesterday and they sent it to me today which I was surprised about. How long does it take to do a changeover and if I have no connection at the moment will the new ISP find that a problem? Thanks!

Not having a working connection usually doesn't matter for migrations, as long as the broadband has been fully provisioned to the line.
Depending on what the problem is just keep in mind the problem could possibly follow you. If you're on an LLU connection then it probably won't however if it's an ADSL Max connection then it's much more likely to follow due to how the connections are setup.

It will be no problem migrating and if your problem does happen to follow you which is unlikely, if you choose your new ISP carefully they should get it fixed quickly.

Have finally made the move and changed over to BT internet. Activation day is Friday so only a few more days of dial up hopefully
Orange are reimbursing me lasat month's £19.99. I'm also sending them my phone bill with all the 0870 calls on and charges for dial up but not sure they'll pay up. Shame it had to end like this as until now I'd be perfectly happy with them.

There are some brilliant IP's and IMHO BT are not a brilliant IP.

Jerry
Why do you say that Jerry? (you've got me worried now ) From reading a few of the posts here people generally seem happy with BT. There are so many to choose from adn a few others were recommended to me (NTL/Virgin, Tiscali, Be etc) but like someone else said none are without problems. Just one thing to ask the forum - once you start changing over to another ISP is that it or can you cancel before activation day? (just incase I change my mind!) Thanks!

If you want to compare the service provided by various ISP's then you
need to look at how they perform when things go wrong. All ISP's are
much the same when everything is working properly. It's when things go
wrong that you can tell a good ISP from a poor ISP. IMHO A great ISP is
an ISP that employs knowledgeable UK based staff who can be contacted
with an 0800 phone call when things go wrong, are keen to help you sort
out your problem, call you back when they say they will and don't tell
you a load of lies in order to fob you off.

And a poor one is when you suddenly realise that you know more than the TS people that you're talking to.

Yes that dreadfull sinking feeling I know it well and months to run on the contract.
