Hi all, Nick the newbie here. To be a newbie obviously means that you've discovered this site and that you have had a problem. Well My 15 megs of free webspace is ......fsnet.co.uk which shows how long I have been subscribing to Freeserve, Wanandoo and now Orange. I have been ftping into this site for almost 5 years and on Sunday I couldn't access uploads.webspace.freeserve.net. Disaster, I did like the rest of you contact broadband help (I'm only on 512k with a live box as I think my exchange in deepest Somerset is still coal powered). Then e-mailed support and got the stock answers. I use Coffecup direct ftp and each time I try I seem to log in but the response hangs and I can't access the directories. I also tried cmd then ftp..... from the command line with the same effect. I then took a closer look at the stock replies and thought I would try the web browser ftp option
This didn't work until further down the stock e-mail I noticed this.
- Start Internet Explorer.
- Click Internet Options on the Tools menu.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Click Enable Folder View for FTP sites.
Lo and behold I could see all of my files and directories and could transfer from and to my PC, as of course the first thing I did was to download all of the files from my site into a directory in the PC so I had everything concisely located in one place if I need to re-build the website with another provider which may soon become a necessary option.
I hope those of you with this upload problem have some success accessing your sites using this solution.
