I've just received this e-mail from Orange, any ideas what these 'Changes' are?
Hello
We're making some changes that could mean we may be able to speed up your Orange broadband package.
These changes are due to be completed on 02/11/2007 at some point between 8am and 6pm. It'll only take about half an hour, but during that time you won't be able to get online.
Sit tight though, we'll email you as soon as it's done.
If you'd like any info on your broadband service, just go to www.orange.co.uk/help or give us a call on 0870 010 2462. There'll be someone there to help you all day, every day.
That is the same email I got last year when they changed me over to LLU - Local Loop Unbundling.
Basically they put their equipment into the exchange.
I'm not saying this is definitiely the case as I know nothing about your present connection, you may already be on LLU.
Anyway after they did this to me, my connection was never right afterwards.
Eventually it went off for 2 weeks solid so I left them.
Thousands of others have had the same problem so good luck, hope you don't have the same.
Thanks for the swift reply, I had a feeling that it may mean that our exchange was being LLU'd, at least I've got a couple of days to start looking for a new ISP!!!!
The curse of the dreaded Orange LLU unbundling strikes again.
I got the same email on the 9th Oct
(I pay for 8mbs and get a speed of 4.2mbs, through my D-Link 2740B wireless router. I'm 1.1km from the exchange) My service then promptly died. I called the call centre & got the usual brush offs from the indian numpties there, but Rotherham customer service did tell me I was being LU unbundled. I've checked the samknows web site - I guess I probably have a tiscali 3rd party service with a max speed of 4.5mbs
Rotherham promised me a new date of the 19th Oct and then I got a confirmation email from good 'ole Orange' stating I now had a new 7.5Mbs service. I flash upgraded my old speedtouch 330 just in case - I then find my service is appalling. Called India many times and am told the fault is all mine, have I checked my filters? and no recognition of their failing with the LLU service. As of the 26th Oct I have a broadband service (as shown by this posting) but my upgrade gives me a line rate of 4.5mbs with severe limitations. Big deal! My speedtests are now averaging around the 3.5mbs mark.
The D-Link router will only give me outlook email & Google text pages but no web images. I have to use the Speedtouch modem (sorry kids, no wireless) It frequently drops out and web page loading is painfully slow.
I am not a happy bunny - orange LLU has given me a degraded service and indian technical won't acknowledge that i have a problem. I have no idea on how to get my new wireless router restored to working order after resetting, checking settings etc. any ideas you guys, is it incompatible? - I hear Netgear routers may be with Talk Talk LLU? I've checked my MTU - set at 1492 but my router tells me I have a PING failure on my ISP gateway plus a failure on the primary DNS server
PS I was an original Freeserve Dial-up'er, even bought shares in them. Wanadoo were poor but Orange is appalling. I guess its pay back time and I should drop the cowboys & indians and find a decent ISP

Have you tried using DRTCP click Here
the info is all there you can download DRTCP from this site (orangeProblems)from this link Here it will more than likely help you get your web pages loading properly again.
Its appalling that people are paying monthly and have all this mucking about just to get connected.

Thanks for the advice
I use TCPOptimizer, but tried the DrTCP but kept getting fragmented packets, irrespective of MTU using my D-Link when PINGing
Funnily enough, I tried the BT speedtester site (with the creaking Speedtouch modem) and it reports the following:
Unexpected result received when querying the network to find your services connection details. Please try again shortly, but if this problem persists raise the issue with your service provider.
I'm still convinced the LLU has screwed up. Its like trying to boil a 230V, 13A kettle, but with a 230V 1.3A supply

I also use TCPOptimizer both similar,
Going by this forum yes it does seem that people with the same problem as yours is usually after being LLU'd usually doing the tweak fixes it, the BT Speedtester doesn't work on LLU lines.
Perhaps just changing your ISP will be easier than dealing with Orange most report no more problems after changing, myself included.

Well. after a fortnight and several goes with TCP Optimizer, I have a steady & working internet connection through my router. LLU changed my MTU packet size down to 1440. Thanks for telling me Orange! It has meant resetting 2 wireless notebooks, a router and a PC
The magic for me is anything below 1440. Setting this figure on both my router and PC did give me a dramatic speed increase in my ADSLMax days
Ok, looks like Orange have made the change, albeit a week later than they advised!!...Livebox stats today show 'Upstream 228' which I believe from earlier threads indicates LLU has been activated? Sync speed is now showing 2.2 as opposed to the 6 - 7 I have been getting and offpeak speedtest results from today show download speed of just under 2 whereas I was getting 5 - 6 off peak before.
Does the 10 day training period apply to exchanges that have been LLu'd and if so am I likely to see a speed increase (I know I should be happy that I've still got a connection at all lol)
