Orange has launched a home landline service and announced new "best value" broadband packages.
Orange Home Max includes a landline connection offering free weekend and evening calls as well as an Orange Livebox – the wireless modem that gives you broadband coverage wherever you are in your home.
A second new package, Orange Home Starter, has launched for customers who want to keep their existing fixed line supplier but still want to move over to Orange Broadband.
Orange Home Max customers will have their landline connection, home phone and broadband services all rolled into one package with one bill and a single number for all customer service support.
Customers can also make free international calls with an inclusive VoIP line. They will also be able to benefit from the launch of Orange’s digital TV service later this year.
Here's an outline on the new broadband packages:
Orange Home Starter:
Price - £12 direct debit per month (£5 per month for Orange mobile customers, saving £7 per month)
Includes unlimited evening and weekend calls to UK landlines starting 01 and 02 from a home phone (fair usage applies)
Includes a Siemens wireless router with speeds up to 2 Meg
6GB monthly download usage allowance
Includes McAfee Privacy service
Orange Home Max:
Price - £24 direct debit per month (£15 per month for mobile customers, saving £9 per month)
Includes line rental
Includes Livebox wireless modem with speeds up to 8 Meg (dependent on distance from exchange).
Includes unlimited evening and weekend calls to UK landlines starting 01 and 02 from a home phone (fair usage applies)
Includes a second VoIP line with inclusive anytime calls to UK landlines starting 01 and 02 and to landlines in 30 countries and all Orange mobile numbers, via an active broadband connection using a phone plugged into the Livebox
Unlimited downloads (fair usage applies)
Keep your existing phone number

This is all the information we currently have - we'll update this post and forum as we get to know more!
We'd love to hear from anyone who is signing up to this package - your problems, issues with set-up, ease of set-up, billing problems, technical and customer support problems etc etc...
The more posters, the mroe chance we have of assisting you with your issues!
Remember this is a brand new service and there will be only a few people who may be able to give advice right now... We'll certainly be dissecting the service over the next few months.
Hi,
I might be joining the Orange Home Starter, but I'm very wary of the 'free calls' aspect of the package. The last thing I want to do is switch phone provider from BT to Orange... Does anyone know how this works? If you read the Orange T&Cs you see you are authorising them to take over your phone line, yet they also say that on Home starter you continue to pay line rental to your existing provider...
How does this work? I don't trust Orange... All I want is broadband for £12 and NOTHING ELSE TO CHANGE!
Thanks, Ian
I forget what the system is called but Orange effectively take over the pricing structure of your calls for a wholesale fee to BT, who manage your line as normal.

So you get your phone bill from Orange not BT? At different call charges to the BT package? There's no mention of that anywhere on the web pages I've read - sneaky!
Thanks, Ian
3rd paragraph of the small print...."Home Max comes with an 18-month contract, and ends your line rental relationship with your existing telephone provider"
"The Orange Home Phone Service consists of two distinct service elements, a line rental service (“Orange Landline Service”) and a call service (“Orange Call Service”). The Orange Landline Service transfers your existing telephone line to the Orange Network which allows you to make and receive telephone calls. The Orange Call Service enables you to make telephone calls which will be carried by us over the Orange Network. Depending on the Home Broadband Package which you take you may receive either the Orange Call Service or both the Orange Call Service and the Orange Landline Service. Only the Second Line phone service is provided with Home Select."

For Home Max, yes. Home Starter the line rental remains as normal, instead your calls are on your Orange bill and charged at different rates compared to BT. Landline UK calls at evenings and weekends are free on it.
