I have no intention of fighting the disconnection - I want off the service - the only reason I was on it was the free calls to the US for my (american) wife. Turns out talktalk offers virtually the same package - will cost me about 40p a month more - in the meantime, all the stuff I wanted to download which I made a point of holding off on is now on it's way - it may seem somewhat petty but since the letter of termination I've already had about 11 gig and another 17 on the way - with any luck I'll get it all but if I don't - so be it - the DD is cancelled - they took money a little over a week ago so worst case, at a huge £5 a month, I'll owe them about £3 by the time the do get around to cutting me off - and I WILL be petty about that - I'll pay it, but I'll make sure it costs them at least the same amount in postage, paper etc to get it.
Well I was officially cut off last night and.... erm - I'm still here....
I don't expect it to last but it comes as no surprise that disconnecting people's service is just one more thing they can't get right.....

lol you certainly have a point
Yes he does doesn't he. I'm still online 2 days after, well 3 now, they said they were going to cut mine. I expect it to happen Monday sometime but I wouldn't put money on it.

If you're at the suspension part of the termination process, should be 14 days before they officially cancel the account and order a cease on the line AFAIK, then the way it suspends should mean you'll keep access usually until the next disconnection.
Be careful how you interpret the FUP. Notice the part about high usage is by itself and gives no direct loopholes such as... "if your usage is still high, unless your usage is during offpeak hours" etc. The first two sections of the policy are effectively irrelevant.
My letter said they'd clear my line by the 5th October. There was no mention of any 14 days here, it sounded as if it was going to be pretty instant.
I'm thinking of going with Be* and it states on their site that it is unlimited. Do they have a fair usage policy cos' I can't find one?

Hi texas
Yes Be has a fair user policy but they have never used it yet at the moment Be is totally unlimited don't know how long it will stay like that, Be belong to o2 (now Sky) which is launching this month sometime and apparently is going to be run seperately.

Any idea what the limit will be when and if they do slap a usage limit on it?
Orange still haven't cut me off and to top it all I got a leaflet in the post today for their Home Max Package which still has a fair usage policy on it. I wish they'd pull their collective fingers out and do something.
Good luck finding someone who offers more than 40gig, some are 30, some are 30 but 300 off peak. Most if not all will have some kinda fair usage, after all why should someone else be punished with slower download speeds.
The should really make it obvious tho that there's a limit, but then I guess more people would push it right to the limit slowing the interwebs down even more, damb you jebus

Those that don't have an FUP clearly state what the limit is and charge £1 per gig or charge in blocks and usually provide a gauge in your account to keep an eye on what your using which i think is much fairer.

Yes that would be fair, or fairer anyway.
I really don't see why there should be limits on anyone though if the companies would get together and introduce a system that could cope with the demand. If there was a bigger pipe you could get more down it. It can be done and should be, we are lagging considerably behind the current technologies capabilities because we are limited to copper phone lines etc.
ps. I'm beginning to wonder if Orange are going to cut me off at all.

Its usually the larger ISP's that tend to offer the earth with hidden restrictions and ridiculously long contracts but they are in a position to afford to advertise heavily so a lot of people only know these ISP's (have you noticed most of the large ones use the word "Unlimited" glaring at you and "Fair User Policy" tucked away somewhere) sadly they don't spend the same on customer service and technical support so its too late when things go wrong and need support the contracts see to that.

I'm going to go with Eclipse I think. They DO have a limit, but its only a 6pm-midnight limit - the rest of the time there is no limit on downloads - I'm a little worried out the way they prioritise who gets how much speed based on how much you pay but nothing ventured, nothing gained. In the meantime, I'm STILL on Orange and making the most of the fact that I have nothing to lose now and downloading all the stuff I didn't download last month when I reduced my usage from 100+GB to around 50 - been a busy weekend for this here box of chips! In the meantime, I'm off to get my a couple o2 (now Sky) contracts to replace the Orange one and the Orange PAYG I have now for my wife and I - Orange keep telling me the net and phone operations are completely seperate but I'm taking everything off of them. Even my mothers contract is due for renewal in a couple months and I'll be doing everything I can to make sure they lose that too.....

Hey guys, I just signed into my Orange account to check payments and instead of what I usually get it now says "Pay As You Go" account and there is a button saying "Restore Account". If I hit that what'd think would happen, would I get choices? Anyone seen this before?

retrieve an active account
If you have an active Pay As You Go account, but have bought a new PC or replaced your PC's hard drive, you'll need to retrieve your account settings before you connect with us.

daytime (6am to 6pm Mon-Fri)
4p per minute
evening (6pm to 6am Mon-Fri)
2p per minute
all weekend (Sat - Sun)
1p per minute
Calls using 0844 number ranges may not be eligible for discounts offered by some
telephone service operators. Consult your telephone service operator if you require further details.
Am I now being charged by the minute or what? This sucks.
ps. It's definitely not dial up I'm on as download speeds are still fast. I am constantly connected via a Netgear DG834g router which stores the settings. If they disable the connection as they said they would to cut me off surely it wouldn't still work even when I leave the router online constantly would it?
Yup, they got to me lol - about an hour ago, so no matter which date was "correct" the suspension date of 4 days ago, or the cancellation date (which was tomorrow) orange DEFINITELY got it wrong.... They're either a day early or the best part of a week late - now to get my MAC code and move onto someone new.
EDIT: This gets better - they just tried to charge me a £5 cancellation fee - I ended up getting out of it, but I can't believe they would even TRY!!!
