I requested a MAC from my ISP which I have, but now I don't want to change so can I just let it expire and carrying on with my existing isp(orange)without any problem ??
Yes, but the effort has been made to get a MAC so all can't be sunshine and oranges.
If my service wasn't as stable as it is (and has been for months) then I'd be gone already but after putting in so much time and effort to achieve this stability I'm now reluctant to leave...... but there I've probably just Murray Walker'd myself !!!!!!!!!!!

I must admit I have had a few probs but at the moment its not to bad I AM ON UP TO (8MEG wireless with free phone calls) but only achieve about 1meg due to the fact i am a very long way from the exchange something like 3.2km in a straight line ans i'm not sure by changing isp this will get any better. A BT engineer has been here and tested the line and confirmed it but do I believe him ??...I know by doing a check with BT it is only offering up to I meg on my phone number

If they've been and checked thats more reliable than the checkers generally. The best way is to post your current download sync speed, attenuation and noise margin. They can give a rough idea of what your line is capable of.
Still need your downstream speed, thats the one that should be listed by your modem/router for the connection, without it the other stats don't give the full picture. Upstream would be helpful too to see what service you're currently on.
You attenuation is high, you're on a long or poor line so you won't get much speed from it anyway. On ADSL Max I'd guess you won't get over 2 meg, you possibly could be on that already.
The margin shows there's a small amount of room for higher speeds as it's 2 notches above the normal target of 6 for Max, that all depends how stable it is and for long lines it may be required to keep it at it's current speed.
Generally though the BT engineer is likely right from the looks of things.
