No letter again today. Orange rep phoned this evening, asked me if I was connected fine and informing me that it was live and such. I quickly asked about the letter and said that it takes 5 (not up to 5) working days for the letter to arrive after activation, which happened on the 7th, so he confirmed I should get it tommorow.
Quite sure he said 5 days, lol. He assured me (so thats both the person I phoned last saturday, and the guy who phoned last night) that I'd get the letter today.
Guess what? No letter.
I can't believe Orange and PC World are getting away with this. If you're selling a mobile phone contract with a free mobile phone, you don't expect to recieve the phone 2 months after the contract's started. Yet with the laptop deal, if there are indeed a large number of people waiting, this is exactly whats happening. I'm lucky, I have a PC I can use and thus the net isn't wasted, but there must be plenty of people who're just throwing their money away thanks to Orange's incompetance.
Basically Orange do whatever they can to take people's money and not provide anything, or an excuse for a service if you're lucky.
Sorry Ralph B I have to admit to laughing about you buying a laptop bag in the hope that it will speed up your laptop voucher coming haha!
Maybe if you polish your index finger also, ready to use the laptop's mouse pad it will speed things up too
Andy
LOUD FANFARE PLEASE : THE LONG AWAITED VOUCHER HAS FINALLY ARRIVED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I urge you all to go out and buy a new laptop bag - if it worked for me it could also work for you - less of your cynicism please cosmicdance ;-))
I will be visiting the store shortly to collect the laptop...........I just want to finish scanning the voucher so I can hang a copy on my wall
ps - my finger is all nicely polished and eager to rub that mouse pad
pps - the voucher states that it is only valid for 14 days from the date stated on the letter - in my case the letter was dated yesterday

Whether you feel like doing it I don't know, but you should write an official complaint letter requesting an investigation and response within the time constraints of their Code of Practice Section 25 and follow it through, if you're not satisfied with their answers, with OFCOM/ISPA/CISAS.

Yes I would write a complaints letter if I had waited as long as you have Ralph, and Cjeheth. There must be so many people like you the only way anyone will act is if they get enough official complaints
I have no intent to have a bag for the laptop. Its a push for me to get the laptop and a replacement printer anyways. I'll give it the chance to arrive in the saturday post, but meh. All I can do is keep phoning up until I get it, lol.
Congrats to Ralph though! Glad you finally got it, and here's hoping theres no further problems.
collected the laptop without a hitch, I tried to upgrade to a better spec machine (obviously willing to pay the difference), the guy in the store initially said ok but the system wouldn't accept the alternative SKU code, never mind though I'm still really pleased with what I've got - Packard Bell dual core 1.73, 1gb ram, dvd writer for £149.99 - I know I'll also be paying for the broadband connection for the next 18 months but I would have been paying for that anyway (at a slightly higher cost too) - so it has to be said that it is a great deal!
I wasn't asked to provide any ID and he didn't look too closely at the special hologram, all he was interested in was the 10 digit validation number printed on it - so an agreement could have been reached between the stores and Orange whereby the number could have been provided by other means.
not sure whether it's the correct process but I got to keep the original voucher too
I asked whether there were many other laptops still awaiting collecion and he said there were still around 50 labelled up as sold
I WILL be writing the letter because of the principle involved and because of the way myself and others like me have been and still are being treated
Thanks for all the support and good wishes from you guys, I've got my fingers crossed that your voucher arrives tomorrow Cjeheth - but if it doesn't then get down to the store and make them sort it out, the sales contract is with them
btw - the letter is signed by 'the team at PC World' & not by Orange
No letter again today. Phoned them up, got through to an automated message, saying that it takes 15 days from registration to come through, press # if its over that time, blah blah blah, got them to send out another letter (though whether they do or not is another matter), wait till next friday...
If I have to phone them up again, I won't be doing so. Trading Standards, Ofcom, the lot, I'll be making complaints all over the place.
Sadly nowhere in any paperwork or online does it state they have to provide the laptop by a certain date. Closest thing I could claim would be false advertising as it was made out that the laptop would be redeemable in 10 days, which would provide me with a clause to escape my contract (and if I was unable to use the net because of that, reclaim payment for that time). Though, I'm sure theres something in trading standards about the time taken to provide goods, meh, who knows.
Once again nothing today. That pretty much clears up that they never sent the first letter (its incredibly unlikely it got lost, along as everyone elses, on top of all the problems I had). Assuming the new letter got sent out today (I'm suspect of it being sent out over the weekend), even with cheap post it should be here by wednesday (we get post pretty quick here).
Just this minute (9:27am, 19th September 2007) recieved the letter. Was dated yesterday, so pretty much confirms they never sent the first letter out (they didn't even send this second one out when requested (saturday, or even the monday), and it arrived the day after it was posted).
Shall be off to PC World this evening to claim the lappy. Huzzah.
[edit]
Yay! Got the laptop, working well. Got put onto that lame techguys direct debit thing though, shall phone up and cancel.
